Usual answer. £58k for a 996 C2 CSR might as well get a 996 GT3 which is the real thing and will retain it's value.

While you have a point there, consider that the 996 GT3 at that price point will not have been restored, whereas this has not only the engine, but the whole chassis redone recently.

This has already suffered depreciation, having cost around £80k to build. With prices for 996 going up and this being a well documented RPM car, you might not loose too much money in depreciation further down the road.

I think this is absolutely lovely and should be on par performance wise with the real GT3. Also it has a frikin ducktail!

ETA
In short, this will be a better drive than probably any other GT3 at that price point. And being RPM's demonstrator with everything thrown into the package and being sold by them, this will be very well looked after (not wanting to open that can of worms regarding demonstrators .....)

Final tweaks, got some LED rear lights as suggest looks great

Brake feel now very good, suspension feels good.

Detent better on Gearbox will let settle and then adjust if needed. Seat is a bit low so will raise 5mm

99% done, just need remap on Friday and then put some miles on it

For a second I thought you painted the car blue! laugh

I really do not want to pee on your parade and much kudos to you for building the car exactly how you want it.
It sure seems to be a real drivers car, but aesthetically I'm not on par with you.

But allow me to comment on your last mod, the rear lights.

I don't think they go with your ethos of creating something retro.
Not because they are all red, but not the right shade of red and LED.

You can get conventional all red rear lights in the states, for instance at sun coast parts (but the presumably lack E markings):
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PKRED997S.ht...

CSR has also fitted 997.1 rear lights to their #007 997.2 retro car, because the are more retro looking than the 7.2 LED lights.

To tweak the detent we can alter the short shift resistance and adjust the cables

The detent is fixed in the box as you know so its messign with other things to get the feel

Also you can adjust the gearbox mounts

I've never been happy with the 2nd gear change on any of these cars. And its a known weak point for me. So much so that if I am just pootling around I go 1st to 3rd and back again.

I agree - I've always felt 1st to 2nd isn't the cleanest of shifts and especially so when cold.

And to Jeweller: Congratulations - I've really enjoyed following this build. The colour is stunning and the car has real presence. The minor details will always be open to personal choice and taste - different strokes for different folks!

Yep, they take a bit of messing about with. You can make them a lot better

1st 4 gears in mine are great, Detent to 5/6 plane is too soft but getting better as new cables settle.

I’ve enjoyed following the thread and hats off to you for making the car your own ! A touch of old, a smattering of new and that personal touch that makes it your own !

I’ve been resisting fitting an LED Frunk light and the deck kid light much to other people’s frustration ? Apparently I need LED replacement fogs too ? Which is odd as I rarely drive it let alone in the dark and I keep nothing in the Frunk and god only knows what’s going on out back so popping the lid in daylight doesn’t interest me so I’m buggered if I’m going to need an LED deck lid,

Seats tho, a double din... reading this has highlighted the fact that an OE upgrade is imminent ? I’m fond of the all red tail lamps as mine is silver I think it would suit, think they were standard on the Turbo .1 997 ? Who’s doing the remap ?

Trackgroup doing the remap who built the car

www.track-group.com

I would not bother on standard engine, but this is 3.9, with larger TB and plenum + 200 cell cats, so needs a dynamic map on the dyno

They would normally do on their engine Dyno but it was fully booked when the build went ahead. Luckily there is a hub dyno next to them

I drove that car a few years ago and it was what convinced me to get a 996 and start a CSR build.
Drafted the 'for sale' ad for my 944T when i got home!

ps. It's nice to see a build that's really personal and not following instagram trends - congrats OP!

As long as you are happy that’s the main thing. Who cares about me, but I am sorry those rear lights look so out of place and period incorrect. I got the impression you were doing an outlaw’esque back date of sorts. Those lights look more futuristic than what even Porsche themselves have done to date. But hey, good luck to you.

Old school badging, modern lights and stripes are not for everyone I get that.

Some people don’t like the wheels some people do.

I just picked what I liked.

Most people love a ducktail on a modern car I think that looks awful.

Aesthetics are always subjective.

I like the CSR build but not the ducktail.

Looks like an IKEA shelf to me, everyone is different 😀
