Cause: complicated, but can be summarised as the later engines having plastic coating on the pistons that breaks down and pulls chunks of silcon(?) out of the cylinder walls, that then scratch the bores. Earlier engines used a ferrous coating on the pistons and didn't have this problem.
Also, per a post by Hartech, 'lugging' the engine, i.e. moderate to hard acceleration from slow speeds / low rpms in low gears. Everything's on the up. At least some sellers seem to think so.
Here's a gen one 987 Cayman S, moderately specced and loiwsh but not ultra low miles, for £27k:

You'd have to really, really, really love aerokit and white to pay £34k for a gen 1. It's a nice spec but not worth 20-30% more money than an equivalent non-aerokit car in black/grey/silver, to me at least.
Aero kits cost an astronomical amount of money ! It’s seen quite often where owners of none Aero cars pay a premium to fit the rear wing and front bumper.
You either like the Aero cars or you don’t, me personally I’d pay over and above for Aero and again for a good colour.
Spec wise PSE. Manual etc will also see a bit of an increase.

A case of more money than sense then possibly ?ArchiesDad said:

Yup, they're a bit like ducktails on watercooled cars apparently, all down to personal taste.
Of course one could say the fitment of an Aerokit to a 997 that isn't a GT3, smacks of desperation on the part of the owner, but not only would that be incredibly judgemental, it could also risk causing offence to the owners of cars thus equipped, and therefore it would be pertinent to keep such thoughts to oneself ...

Your either bored sat at home in a pair of st stained underpants entertaining yourself for self gratification or your other half has encouraged you to spend more time sat at the lap top in another room out of her way. Either way I’m getting a bit bored of being stalked and bullied on an Internet forum while you hide behind a key board talking yourself up.
You are right I don’t like duck tails we established that, you don’t have to bring your pathetic opinion on another thread ruining that one like you did the last. As I tried explaining before I don’t have to like something that you don’t even own and I don’t like being followed round.
The simplest way to sort this out as your clearly wanting some kind of reaction is message me privately. We can meet up.
Either do that or if you don’t have the balls stop following me round looking for slippy sloppy Kudos !
It’s pathetic, get a grip and get out of the house for an hour or two.
