I’ve stopped calling as they don’t know (I’m Q4 2022) and five months since I placed my deposit. I’m now at the stage where I’m expecting it to be delayed longer and will then take a view whether I am interested at the time as the auto world is changing so fast at the moment.

I guess if it was Q2 for you then he would already know so he is really saying Q3?
And which 992 do you have on order?

Not a chance . This is the new world of car buying limited stock , manufacturers and dealers are selling less cars but making bigger profits as they are not providing big discounts. We’ve had 1-2 years of limited supply so this means this will continue for sometime and used cars will be over valued.
In which case for the first time ever it makes more financial sense to buy brand new……if patient enough for the wait. Crazy times.

Order placed last week and I was told I might see it this year but likely to be early 2023 ( which I am fine with) as my cayman will then be 3.5 years old. I was told if I change my mind to a T (if Porsche release the 992 version) then I might get the car this year as they want good customers to get priority first.

C4 coupe for me. When I ordered the GTS was the shortest delivery, the regular C in the middle and the S a lot longer. I’m hoping now that mine actually gets rolled up into the .2 and I will wait for that unless we get some mega carbon tax on these sort of cars which could easily happen but probably post the next general election IMHO.

Ordered a c2. Was told it will likely be a 992.2 when it arrives.

Hi GT4RS,

This will be my first Porsche and I’m currently car less, got rid of my M3 Comp around 6 months ago. I’m working from home so I just use my wife’s car when needed, so nothing to part ex I’m afraid.

I guess what has frustrated me more is when I read people who placed their orders a couple of months after me and they’ve already received their allocations. System doesn’t seem fair and I’m not used to the way Porsche work. Nothing feels certain until you get an allocation and as I’m not seeing any progress it just frustrates me even more. For me this is supposed to be me getting my ‘dream car’, but the experience is a bit st at the moment as I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen.

Sorry for the whinging, I know there are more important things in the World and I need to keep things in perspective. Thanks for your post and information regarding the struggles the dealers are having too.
Schuey_911, similar situation to you. Ordering my first Porsche. Initially put a deposit down in March. Got an allocation for a Targa 4S but turned it down to get in the queue for a Targa GTS. Got my deposit transferred to a GTS when it was announced in June, was annoyed to find out I was third in the queue. The OPC were fairly straight with me but the waiting around gets really frustrating, was emailing them once a month to get updates…but there was none. Ended up calling various other dealerships and the one in East London advised that it’s not looked upon favorably if you put down multiple deposits. Finally got the magical call in November to say I had an allocation for a Jan build. Ordered a carmine red targa with the GTS interior package, RWS, FAL, Sports Seat plus (18W), matrix lights, surround view, LDP, heated GT SW, Bose and a few other aesthetics. Just be patient, if you go to another dealership you’ll join the back of another queue. Also I was protected from the base price increase. Was told if I had a deposit down before Nov I was protected and could make changes to my spec as long as I didn’t change the model and that was the case when I got my finalised paperwork through. Now counting the days until it arrives. Looking to get it PPF’d before I take it home.

I have put down deposit for the 911 C2S in Dec-21 and I am told the Porsche UK guidance is 4Q2023. I am a fairly patient man, but 2-years waitlist is ridiculous. The SM is checking what can be done as looks like I will see two annual price increases and potentially a 992.2 nip-and-tuck facelift.

Morning 911_TGA, thanks for your detailed reply. I will take your advice and be patient and hoping I'll get that good news phone call soon. Congratulations on yours, spec sounds amazing and I bet you can't sleep at night you're that excited, that's how I'd be anyway!! Good shout on the PPF, I'll be getting mine done too before delivery. All the best and good luck with collection day. Post some pics if you can once you get it. smile

Dealer not had any 911 allocations in months. No idea when will get more.

I'm gonna have to start thinking of an alternative but God knows what

Really interesting to hear all of the crazy offers being made on used cars, just shows how much of a supply shortage there is due to the semi conductor chip shortage. It will resolve itself over time but there is probably a big backlog to get through first.

Not sure I subscribe to car manufacturers preferring this set up as whilst they are making more money on used car sales and maybe not having to discount new car sales, they are selling a hell of a lot less than they would like, so that will have to hit their profits.

That's what I've been thinking. In the short term, it means that manufacturers have a full order book and demand is high so they don't have to discount as much. But surely, in the longer term, they'd have to put their prices up significantly for them to make the same profits with less volume. Maybe they're hoping that people who have bought used cars at the current prices won't baulk at paying more for a new car. It's probably like other things, if the change is made gradually, people don't tend to kick up as much of a fuss...

You'd think dealers want cars out there to service. Not only are people doing less miles due to home working etc but there are just gonna be less cars out there

Yes, it will also be interesting to see what inflation will do to new car prices. It seems reasonable to expect them to increase over the short term especially as people are willing to pay over list (although they don’t really have much of a choice at the moment with current lack of supply).

I suspect the used car market bubble will eventually burst, it’s just a matter of when not if.

+1

Don't use acid wheel cleaning chemicals. Harsh chemicals shouldn't be necessary on a car with PCCB's.

Hand car wash places are notorious for using strong acid wheel cleaners so avoid those.

I have a C4 on order which I paid the deposit last April for delivery this March. The dealer is saying when I visited recently they have had no allocations for base or S models since summer last year and the last delivery of one of those models was October. I am apparently top of their list but it’s looking like April/May now before I see a car.
