Got a link? smile
I do too - a Yosh from Amazon. Just £8.
I ended up using 2 magnetic mounts to get better stability. You just slip the little metal plates inside your iPhone case and it's rock solid. The position is perfect, it's the same height as you would choose to place a Nav screen. You can put it on one of the centre vents but I prefer it on the right of the steering wheel.

Honestly with your phone there I don't know why you wold bother with an overpriced headunit replacement.

I really have been waiting for this, as after market stereos are a pet hate of mine (as you might have realized by now).
The 996 PCCM+ looks spot on and fits the interior really well.

But I'm so disappointed by this ..... frown
It really looks very cheap indeed and the USB A port (!!!!!!!) stuck in the most prominent place ruins it completely!
And as has been mentioned, it just looks completely stupid having your phone pluged into the front of the stereo.

USB A???? FFS its 2023 in two weeks time. How Porsche can bring out something like this is beyond me confused
I would have liked to see wireless Carplay and an inductive charging pad inside the centre console / armrest.

But It's not only that. I think the geometry of the center console that is wider on top than on the bottom doesn't work with the grey contrast and a rectangular black screen. The more I look into it, the more I'm certain that I will stuck with my original (painted in black) PCM and my Mr.12 Volt Bluetooth dongle. This setup works perfectly for me. Only downside is the constant "CD1 T01" message in the central display.....

Thanks. These look ideal. I use a little Belkin holder like the one below that works well on most cars but in a 997 has the phone pointing downwards. Adding a Josh should fix it..

I think it looks absolutely terrible, and only a USB A port on the front? In my cayman I had a USB cable come out into the glove box and the central storage and not a cable in sight. But that aside.... it just looks like cheap Chinese knock off.

My Jurys out til i see it in flesh. I agree the port in the front is silly.
Could it be the grand plans for this was scaled back when the semi-conductor chip crisis came along. I mean with this set up they used steam technology.
I really like the data system linked to my steering wheel controls and the upgraded graphics of the sat nav in 3D will be a big bonus for touring, especially as i can alter functions with my steering wheel.
Will i spend two grand on it?. possibly, the system i have now isn't cutting it. i mainly listen to radio 4 and podcasts or catch-up about architecture or ancient history. This isn't the great leap forward i hoped for but may just be worth purchasing if i can try a demonstrator.
Its VW generic technology from last generation made in China.
All their stuff is a bit crap since they stopped using Bosch for their info systems and went in house.
Will it work with my Bose?. I dont want to downgrade Hendrix's solo on Little Wing.

Agreed, not the best for sure, missed opportunity to make something everyone would want !

I bought this a while back : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q82LRDK?psc=1&r...

I can put up with its misgivings for £15, I'd be tearing my hair out paying 100x more for PCCM+

Interesting you say that, I find the Bose poor, have it in my Macan and its not great, and it wasn't great in my Cayman either. Non Bose was a thing for me this time on the 997, Focal and Hertz gear inbound to go with the new head unit

i didn't say the Bose was that good , Neither is the Bower and Wilkins my sister has.
although i haven't heard the standard sound in 997. I can hear the two bass bins behind me when i play NWA or Ice T, not sure if they're world class but certainly loud enough for the job in low range.
I mainly play vinyl at home with a huge sound band width between bass and treble.

The single slot CD player in my facia gives a fairly decent sound quality but nowhere near the clarity of vinyl. Playing sound streamed /blue toothed from my daughters phone is so ghastly i find it narrow in adjustability, too loud in top range and like a digital photo with low pixels. My daughter has recently had to agree in a taste test that vinyl at low volume made her Apple blue tooth system sound like the weedy kid at school.

So i would question the amount of data your phone was supplying to the Bose. possibly a system designed for shop bought factory CD's.

Surely you can't see that screen properly - and why does it need to be within easy hands reach? It's still illegal to use your phone in your car even if it's in a mount.
I've got a centrally mounted windscreen sucker that my phone mag-mounts to in landscape only, purely for when I'm using it for Nav. Far easier to look only left than down and right when driving...
'Overpriced' head unit replacements aren't for everyone, but that what personal choice is for.

It's designed to match the 997 interior, what did you expect it to look like? They can only do so much to fit an 18 year old design, FFS.
I can't see why it's such a disaster to have use a cable to connect your phone when in a lot of cases, it's plugged into a charge port somewhere in the car anyway. Get over it.
It's USB-A because it's for both phones AND USB sticks with music - maybe find stuff like that out before losing your st?
Overall, it's a low-volume replacement unit produced by Porsche - who didn't have to btw - to give as close to a factory look as possible. I wouldn't get one because I don't use my car enough to justify the cost, but if I did, I certainly would.
You lot losing your minds are hilarious. If you like it, buy it; if you not then don't, instead of running to your keyboards like butthurt little boys.

You can see it fine. It’s actually not illegal to use the phone in a mount, it’s the same as using a touch screen. You still have to maintain good control of your car as with any device. The illegality is in holding your phone while driving.

Depending on your definition of 'use' it is very much illegal to use your phone even if it is in a mount. This is why you get morons thinking it's fine to text, scroll Instagram, etc. 'because I'm not actually holding it'
Tapping to accept a direction change or similar is fine, but you can get still get your collar felt if you're observed by The Law and they think that you're not in control of your vehicle.

I’m sorry. It that’s simply not true.

As I said the general regulation about being in control of your vehicle at all times covers using your phone on a mount applies, as it does when using your cars controls etc. but there is nothing additional covering using the phone in a mount.

It IS true, if you understand the definition of the law insofar as 'being in control of your vehicle at all times'
Just because it doesn't specifically state 'it's illegal to use your phone in a mount' doesn't mean you can't still get pulled for doing just that, or that it's mind bendingly stupid to assume that you can.

The law treats using a phone in a mount exactly the same as using a touchscreen that is built in to your car. That’s all I’m saying. There is an overriding obligation to remain in control but it is identical in both cases. You can get pulled over for using your built in Apple CarPlay on the same basis.

You have found the wrong tree to bark at!
I have been one of the biggest supporter of the PCCM+ Porsche offers for their classic cars. I would have been the first in line for this and if I‘d have a 996 I‘d have one in a heartbeat.

Contrary to many others, I applaud Porsche for building these, that is why I am so disappointed in the 997 variant.

Regarding USB sticks: who the fk uses an USB stick for music in 2022? Also, don‘t you have USB Sticks with USB C? Nowadays I mainly use Kingston 256GB ones that have USB A AND USB C ports. I only need the USB A side if no USB C is available. Didn’t you know these existed? Maybe you find out stuff like this before posting?

I think I stated valid points with exact simple solutions that would have made it better, because I wanted it to be better.
The one loosing his st about this is you.
