I did consider this car and although chrono would have been nice the main thing putting me off was lack of Porsche warranty . In my opinion it would fly off the shelf if the owner had inspection completed any issues rectified and 12months warranty added . This would give a buyer great piece of mind . ( particularly with ceramics ) .

OPC's get a bit of a hard time but they do come with good prep and warranty . The last OPC Spyder I looked at had £6k of prep before cost of warranty was added !

It's getting to a price it's worth taking a punt at but Ive went and bought a new manual / 2wd / bucketed GTS instead. ( and GT3 now coming much sooner than I anticipated ) . Although I'd still be tempted if it at least had 111point inspection done to see what was required for warranty ....
If a car needed £6k of prep I would not want it anyway !

hence why I rather like to buy off owners direct and see what the car is like, buying from an OPC is buying blind imo and they don't give you any history files as they quote data protection, so you buy a rare car with ZERO paper work and no history. I have 6 years of files and history if some one buys mine (it's not for sale any way) and it's not a run of the mill Porker it is a car which is going up in value, so provenance imo is key to buying these sorts of cars.

I doubt the car in question needed £6k prep anyway, I would want to know what was going on for it to need that.

I have 3 cars none need 1p spending on them let alone £6k !!! none would take a Porsche warranty though as I don't fit N spec tyres and Porsche batteries !!! but I guess if I were to sell I would put it though a 111 inspection, but all my cars have this free at MOT time any way as Porsche MOT all my cars and they all get a full check at the time with video. again if any one bought my cars you would get a file full of Porsche MOT's and health checks.

Hi Kevin yes the Gt4 is amazing and I really love it but I will always have a soft spot for the 987 spyder when I bought it was a keeper but I am coupe man so sadly it had to go!Before I got allocated a Gt4 I was first on the list for a 981 spyder but in the end I wanted a coupe more so another CaymanS/R or a 997gts was on my radar so I let it go to someone else fortunately I then got allocated a gt4. If I really wanted a soft top Porsche I would have kept the 987spyder as it really is the best soft top Porsche make/made!
Enjoy and happy safe motoring
Paul
Hi Paul,

Ha so the car is £11000 underpriced following a heatwave in peak buying season approaching summer. What utter bks.

Talk about talking up the market.

Its obviously a £42k car max.

End of. biggrin:
not quite end of.

The car sold into the trade for more than your stupid quoted figure ! and will now be at a dealers for a lot more.
While you talk up the market on every thread, I am just saying what the cars have been selling for.

The last nice spec low miles cars went for £55k (well 2 in fact one at JZM and one at 911V) and a 30k mile car just went for >£40k
all manual of course.
And while all the manuals keep selling, the OPC network are stuck with 3 PDK cars !

In fact there is not a single manual 987.2 Spyder car for sale anywhere, until this one is relisted at a much higher price.

I'll await an apology, but I don't think it will come. more so to the owner really talking down the price of his car to a stupid level !
Will be interesting what it comes back for sale at now it's with a dealer.

The £6k prep was exactly why I didn't buy the OPC car !

No suggestion this car needed any spend . Simply stating the Porsche warranty gives piece of mind in the used market as it's as robust as a used warranty can be . I would have bought at original price if car had warranty .

It was a good buy at £44k for someone .

On the subject of A/C in a Spyder, I bought mine in December last year. It's an immaculate one owner 7k mile with the Spyder wheels, buckets and manual and doesn't have A/C. At no point was I remotely bothered about it not having A/C, in fact I thought to myself that would mean less to go wrong in the future. I know it puts some people off which I personally don't understand but I wouldn't have let a good car go for a lack of A/C.
Trouble is we havent had a properly hot day since December so I havent used mine either. I intend to take my car to southern Europe and 35c without a/c on a long trip once I have had my first 200 miles roof down isnt for me. I cant understand why people dont spec free A/C for the sake of 12 Kg or so in a lardy 1300 + kg and I would and have let a car go for lack of A/C. Bottom line the market dictates what most people want.
Even the Lotus Exige chaps seek out a/c these days.

Hi kevs172 - I was the previous owner of the Spyder which I purchased from GT4P after looking for a suitable car and without doubt it was definitely the best that was available at the time . I sold to 911 Virgin who couldn't believe the condition of the car when they came to view . The only reason that I decided to sell was because I had too many cars for the available storage and this was the car that I had used the least and even though I enjoyed driving it and it was truly " out of the box " it was always at the back of the queue and was likely to remain so for the forseeable future given the other special cars that I am extremely lucky to currently own . I hope that you use it and enjoy the experience .

Hi gts888,
Thanks for replying,it's great that both the previous owners have commented on here.
The car certainly is in incredible condition and I can't wait to collect it from 911 Virgin who are a great company to deal with.
Yes I will be using it throughout the summer as much as I can.
Have a great time enjoying the other cars that you own.
Cheers
Kevin

It was as it's now £48k with a dealer, shame no one realised what it was, a very rare car, o well.
And I think still the only Manual , bucket seated car with Spyders for sale atm.

Really nice guys at Ashgood, people you can trust and deal with. Its with a heavy heart I let it go but time to move on. This is a great car and still represents fantastic value at this price.

I hope whoever gets it enjoys it just as much as I did.

Shame they don't error check their adverts though. Not sure I want a Lightweight Porcshe Spyder.

Hi, in the market for a Porsche Spyder (987).

Interested in any cars people may be thinking of selling. Or alternatively any advice on cars which are currently on the market

Also any PDK spyder owners, any thoughts on whether you would go manual next time?

There may be cars that are cooler (air cooled 911's), faster ones too (Ferrari), ones with hardcore racing heritage (E30 M3) but hey my 987 Boxster Spyder is the most fun I have ever had.

Go buy one.

Sigh. Loved my 981 Spyder but not enough time to enjoy it really. There is a lot of demand for them, and rightly so, a truly fantastic car. Mine sold by OPC at asking price within 48 hours. I hope the new owner has many miles and years of smiles!

My 981 goes back to my OPC on Thursday
A year free motoring so can't be bad
Not sure why but I never really loved it - think that living in London and driving locally in traffic did not help
Designed for the open road not stop start

I've only owned one open top car...that was an E36 M3 I bought back in 1997 when I was living in NW London...used to be drive to work in it. I really don't think there's much pleasure to be had from driving an open top car in London....getting stuck in heavy traffic in London in an open top car is just not much fun....exhaust fumes belching out of vans and lorries right next to you and lets face it you're a bit vulnerable so you can't leave anything on the seats etc. Moved out of London 18 months ago and we're getting a Boxster later this year for Mrs Cheib...I'd rather be getting a Spyder for me but that would be pushing my luck biggrin

Tyres.... Again.

Going to finally order some.

I think I will stick with PS2 for the 987 Spyder. Was tempted by PS4S, but not sure about moving from known options and just go like for like.

One question... Michelin site gives front tyre option as 91 ZR(Y) XL n2 for the 987 Spyder.

On the car currently (as supplied new) is 87 ZR(Y) N2.

Has anyone else got the higher load tyres fitted and what would the difference be in either option?

Anyone put PS4S on their spyder?

Cheers.

I have PS4s and they are a bit harsh, I would go PSS while you can.

I would stick with the correct load rating of 87 (545kg). 91 (615kg) is 70kg more. I reckon it will mess up the ride and probably the handling too
