Boxster Spyder

Today was my final day with my 981 Spyder as it goes in tomorrow to be exchanged for a new GT3. Fortunately the weather was brilliant and I’ve had a full day of roof down enjoyment. I cannot wait to experience my first GT car, but I’m going to miss the Spyder incredibly - I’ve made many brilliant memories and it has been by far my favourite car I’ve owned. I hope to pick up another one again in the future when finances allow. What brilliant cars they are.
What an experience. Cherish it but just think of the 9k limit and everything gt.The spyder will always be great memories .
Good luck and happy saving.

The new Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder due in 2018 reintroduces a famous name from the sports car maker's back catalogue: Spyder. Last used in 2015 for a 370bhp 3.8-litre kick, our new spy photos from Sweden prove there's a new one coming for the newly four-cylinder powered 718 range too.
Except this one won't use the boxer four-cylinder engine: instead, you can expect to see a flat six shoehorned amidships, on loan from Porsche's GT division. Which is a very good thing indeed...
These new spyshots capture the Spyder on winter test in Sweden; our photographer was able to get up close to the fly-topped 718 as it stopped for fuel, as part of a convoy of future Porsches.
So which flat-six is likely to power the Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder?
Think a roadster version of the Cayman GT4 and you're on the right lines. Word is the naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine will displace 4.0 litres and develop some 430bhp - slightly detuned from its 911 GT3 application, in other words.
'That could explain the fact that the exhaust pipes have grown and moved position compared to the last Boxster Spyder,' said our man with the long lens. 'We also noticed the same on the 718 Cayman GT4 prototype when we spotted it in 2017.'
We've also snuck a look inside the new Spyder, as drivers stopped off to refuel their prototypes on winter test.
Carbon-backed sports seats are visible in this example, plus an Alcantara-rimmed steering wheel and manual transmission lever. It's not too stripped out, however: full PCM sat-nav is present and correct.
Six-cylinder power is likely to recapture some of the fizz that made the original 2009 Boxster Spyder a firm favourite among Porschephiles. GT car chief Andreas Preuninger confirmed to CAR last year that nat-asp, high-revving engines would remain a core part of Porsche's most special cars for many years to come.
A six-speed manual transmission is on the cards, as confirmed by our interior spyshot above, and our photos also suggest that lighter alloy wheels, track-focused tyres, an aero package and brake upgrade will be offered on the 718 Spyder.
The lightweight, fly-off canvas roof - clearly visible in our spy photos grabbed when the Spyder pulled into a Swedish petrol station - is another obvious weight-saving tactic; expect the kerbweight to tumble somewhat from a regular 718 Boxster S or GTS.

When can I buy a 718 Boxster Spyder? And how much will it cost?
There's no definitive answer on either question. Judging by the state of readiness of the prototypes photographed here, we'd expect to see the Spyder unveiled in mid 2018, pointing to customer deliveries in the autumn.
It's too early to call the likely UK pricing of the Spyder. With the GTS topping out at £62k, there's clearly more headroom for this six-cylinder special to head well north of £70k.

lol Porsche seem a bit lazy on the Spyder imo the 987.2 was a classic, the 981 has a few of issues, the 718 looks like a 718 !the cars could be so right imo
have you picked up the GT3 yet ?
This morning was at the PEC - it is a very sorted bit of kit - I really, really like it - much prefer it to my 991.1RS - Got to love a manual
When’s yours arriving ?

Sadly I agree. Even with the Spyder treatment, I think the front will look bland compared to the 981 - though I can live with the rear. So, if they shove a strangled 4.0 in the new Spyder it remains (for me) a decision over drivetrain v cosmetics.
And when I factor in how my regular OPC needs me to part ex my 981 for a 718 - to simply stay on his list for the next 992 GT3. ...And if they go and turbo that thing - Ouch! LOL. :-)
Agree on the looks....looks nowhere near as good as the 981. Zooming on that picture of the interior it looks that it is the six speed box. Does that mean it is the GT3 engine that has been speculated ?!?!
Amazing how these “spy”photographers still can’t get a video so we can hear the engine.

But they can hear the engine hence the continued reporting its a flat 6 plus I am sure most of these so called "spy shots" are prearranged hence that relaxed driver sitting there passenger window down whilst interior is snapped Amazing how these “spy”photographers still can’t get a video so we can hear the engine.

Given the same basic engine DNA, a detuned GT3 engine (i.e. one with all the fancy bits removed) is essentially a 4.0ltr version of the 3.8ltr engine in the 981 Spyder. So both rumours re. the 4.0 NASP engine amount to the same thing IMHO. An 8k-ish rev limit would seem likely.Given the 981 Cayster 6-speed has had issues, and the 718 GTS has restricted torque for the manual version, I would guess it's the GT3 six speed box, yes.

Hah! Could be dubbed for all we know, yet that video could single handedly alter the Spyder market!I would caution that could it not be possible that that car isn’t the final spec anyway?

Just thinking the same thing. Not much background noise, which is strange given that it's filmed on a motorwayI would caution that could it not be possible that that car isn’t the final spec anyway?
Think if you want a N.A. spider or GT4 then you best go buy one now while you can, as can see them only going up and very few for sale.
But yes the new one will be quicker and will leave the old car for dust and when you really sit down and think about it all and how the world is going it could only ever be turbo couldn't it ? As Porsche has just rushed out the 4L engine in all the 911 cars because it had to for regs and do we really think it would go to all the trouble of sorting a much low output engine and then sort for the new regs just for a few spiders and GT4's well it dosnt look like there are does it from that video clip

No way that is dubbed - you just all wish it was.
As I posted on the GT4 wishlist...sorry...speculation thread, I've been watching YouTube videos and sending my OH links to the 981 Spyders that are for sale at the minute. After watching that little vid, I see no reason why I would choose a new one over a finger-lickingly gorgeous Agate Grey 981 Spyder with carbon buckets and a 3.8ltr NA6.....

Not me. Sounds legit to me but hold on I will try a dud a gt3 engine over it lol to make you feel better
It's 4 pot turbo guys and always have been and it's the only way they can go with the 718 as that's what Porsche marketing started out with and the 718 stands for or if not then why isn't the new Cayman or boxer not call 982 or 981.2 ?

As I've said before, they could have spun off the GT4 and Spyder as their own sub range, and badged them without he "718" branding.
If, as it seems, it's a 4-pot turbo it could well explain all the previous 'staged' mule spyshots with no audio. Porsche have been drip feeding everyone.
