Boxster Spyder
Discussion
I've watched the clip carefully several times. That's 99% DEFO a 4 pot test mule.
It makes absolutely no sense to go to the trouble of putting the wrong engine in it.
So - either someone took the time and trouble to edit that clip in time with the car's movements... or the designers like the 4 pot sound so much, they've actually made the 4.0 sound like a 4 pot...)
OR we start rejoicing we were lucky enough to own our 987s and 981s before they went up in value!!! LOL.

No way that is dubbed - you just all wish it was.
As I posted on the GT4 wishlist...sorry...speculation thread, I've been watching YouTube videos and sending my OH links to the 981 Spyders that are for sale at the minute. After watching that little vid, I see no reason why I would choose a new one over a finger-lickingly gorgeous Agate Grey 981 Spyder with carbon buckets and a 3.8ltr NA6.....

Love this car.

There you go... told you it would have a GT style front... and it looks like it might take cues from the GT2 RS, similar to previous shots of the 718 GT4 Mule... with exit venting in front of the front wheels to clean up turbulent flow down the side of the car from the the wheels spinning. Maybe cleaner flow required to feed more air into that turbo charged engine.Edited by TDT on Tuesday 20th March 09:06

So if it has a GT-style front end one assumes it will share an engine with the GT4, no?
Yep - a turbo charged one.I've said it before when the 981 GT4 mules were first spied - they should make this car a Mini-GT2 - as it was the future... seems like they finally might be catching up to my vision! lol

Lots of people still swearing the GT4 is NA though....
nothing is set until Porsche announce. One swallow doesn't make a summer and all that. This could be one prototype with a configuration - Turbo engine and full body work... there might be others out there with different engine and the plain GTS front end and PDK gearbox.
We won't know until we all know.
From the current shots though.. the new car is not as pretty as the 981 Spyder IMO.

718 Spyder = 3.0 turbo engine out of the 991.2. That clip does not sound like a N/A engine and its to complete to start messing around with testing different engines.
It will be fast and new but it will sound **** sadly. *IMO*
Flat 6 with a Turbo doesn't physically fit the current 981/718 engine bay by a country mile It will be fast and new but it will sound **** sadly. *IMO*
Now the next generation 911 /992 with its brand new chassis which will be shared with the next generation Boxster / Cayman might cater for a flat6 with turbo but for now that isn't an option at all

Yep, I believe the turbos do not clear the bulkhead. It would take a major redesign to fit the F6T by the sound of it.
Or maybe single turbo on the F6? although you'd think this would have been on the board as a potential for the 718 from the beginning? And then if they dropped it, its because there was a penalty somewhere which was just too much to bear.Edited by TDT on Tuesday 20th March 13:55

Frank Walliser did say that the new GT4 will be based upon a new platform. Maybe the GT4/Spyder will be the first car on the new architecture which can hold the F6T?
That would be new!
