I thought I read it was a new chassis to take the up & coming hybrid versions and I believe other sports cars in the VAG were going to use same platform to

But as 991 chassis is relatively new I could be talking complete censoredeek

From Total 911 I knew I read it somewhere laugh

https://www.total911.com/2018-porsche-911-could-us...

According to the rumours, the same modular platform will also find its way into the next generation Cayman and Boxster and could be shared with VW Group stablemates, Lamborghini and Audi (the latter for the R8 supercar).

The move would be a radical step for the 911, Porsche having long kept its iconic sports car ring-fenced from its in-house rivals. However, with VW Group needing to save money after the diesel emissions crisis, a shared modular platform would help to reduce development and manufacturing costs across the board.

718 Spyder = 3.0 turbo engine out of the 991.2. That clip does not sound like a N/A engine and its to complete to start messing around with testing different engines.

It will be fast and new but it will sound **** sadly. *IMO*
Flat 6 with a Turbo doesn't physically fit the current 981/718 engine bay by a country mile

Now the next generation 911 /992 with its brand new chassis which will be shared with the next generation Boxster / Cayman might cater for a flat6 with turbo but for now that isn't an option at all

Once upon a time... they said that a 911 engine could not be made to fit in the Boxster... Could the F6T be another red herring ?

Could well be IMHO. I think a F4T is highly unlikely, F6T more probable if they go turbo.

Having seen new F4 engine at PEC they explained why the F6 Turbo couldn't get close to fitting so I think this time around it's not fake news at all

Fair enough! I keep forgetting the turbos take up a lot of space.

Maybe the "new platform" will have room for a T6?

Just to set another hare running....

Matthias Hofstetter had said this about the F6 Turbo..

“We have the same engine compartment as in the 981,” Hofstetter explains. “If we had gone for a six-cylinder engine (turbo), we would have had to build a completely different car, and it wouldn’t have looked like a Boxster anymore.” Matthias Hofstetter Porsche AG

Took my spyder out this morning while everyone was in bed. Nice tonic away from kids and all the grind.
I drove a 2wd and 4wd 911.2 gts at PEC in the week and loved both but my spyder felt better than both in power delivery and specialness.
I am a lucky boy.

I had a play at the PEC too this week.
A good fun day out, but didn’t drive anything that felt as special as my Spyder.
Sun is out, roads are drying... as soon as my Sunday roast has been dealt with I will be releasing the Spyder into the wild biggrin

Boxster 7.
I took my brother to PEC and he loved it . He had a boxster 10 years ago and is looking to dip his toe again. He is eyeing a 718 spyder.
Is a nice day out for free.they look after you. 981 spyder punches above its pricepoint.
I will go back later in the year and do the half day on the tracks. Best fun you can have with your clothes on!

Just back from a 40 mile topless blast and with PSE "on" radio "off" I still can't think of anything that delivers so much fun, thrills and what a sound for the money paid beer

Yes, I’ve managed to end up at the PEC many times over the last 3 years, always a quality day. Good food and drink, and good to see and drive so many different cars.
Always come away thinking I should be a better driver though.... but good fun learning new tricks.
I’m sure your brother will be in for a treat if he gets into a Spyder (hope the new one still has 6 pots!!)

If the spyder is a 4 my brother will still want one. He will keep the car for the long term. He wants a garage queen for weekends and evenings.
