CAR magazine online have the latest pics of the 718 spyder testing.
It's amazing how these spy photographers manage to get so close to cars and don't think to take a video so people can hear the engine.....I wonder why scratchchin

Yep, looks pretty finished. GT4 side scoops on the intakes I see, but still the GTS Sport Design front bumper from earlier prototypes.

Visually doesn't seem to be as 'special' to my eye as the 981 version, but if it drives like the 981 GTS/GT4/Spyder, I would forgive it for looking almost identical (to the layman) as a Boxster.

The question is - the Sypder or the GT4? biggrin

I think a bright colour will help it look better, but that rear end isn't as nice as the 981.

I wonder if it'll get the GT-style front - none of the prototypes thus far have had it.

Well spotted and that's what it's missing for me - a GT-style front end.

It's got the GTS front, same as all the other spyshots and all but one of the GT4 spyshots too.

Still some development to go?

The exhaust tips separated like that are very similar to the sports exhaust option on the 991.2 3.0 Turbo engines.

I would much prefer an n/a engine but if it had the engine from the 991.2GTS I wouldn't be too upset and would throw my hat into to ring to see if I could get one.

With no video we've really got no confirmation of the engine, but by all accounts/rumours it's a "cheap" 4.0ltr NASP based on the GT3 but with all the trick parts removed.

The exhaust probably had to be redesigned due to enable the engine and pipework to fit in the 982 engine bay.

I've been thinking for the longest time that the spacing looks pretty similar to 992 snaps!

I think that's going to be the front end, which is a shame. Aside from the little 'duck tail homage' on the 981, the thing I liked abut it was that it had the GT3-style bonnet and open bumper design. This version looks like a GTS with a tonneau in place which as I say, is a bit of a shame.

Would be amazed is a car as un-camo'd as that, gets any more significant design changes.

Really though exhaust positioning is not a true indicator of the powerplant.

Clear to see from the 718 Spyder shots, and since the GT4 and really the 911R that Porsche are finally playing with under body aerodynamics to achieve downforce/minimise lift without adding more drag.

The 718 Spyder shots look like it has the underbody fins, and the exhaust tips have been moved outwards to allow that big channel of air out of the centre.

they need to do a job on this new one as atm it looks too normal,

the 981 is aggressive and the 987.2 sexy, this one still looks like a stock 718.....

That's what I've been saying, but I got shot down. Folks reckon there's plenty of time to make changes.

I thought you'd test in final form though, not chuck a whole new bumper on just prior to launch...

I think we can all agree that the front end treatment will affect airflow both through to the engine and under the body of the car.

As stated above, they are spending time and money on underbody airflow manipulation...so you can paint me pink and call me Babs if they change the entire bumper design between now and launch.

You're seeing the 'finished' article there.

hmmm - that front end doesn't match up to the much bulkier rear end... looks out of proportion now in the new pics, and looks like two different cars stuck together.
If they have that rear.. which they will.... I'm on Team 'front is going to change'.

Why would they be running this front end if it wasn't going to be used in actual production cars! The front of the 981 Spyder is far more in keeping with cars looks than this effort imo and separated it from the other 981 versions offered at the time so if the 718 was to keep that classic GT front end why isn't it testing in that format currently

maybe because it's 18 months away and they are just paying with engines and deciding what BHP to give them.

I still don't see one till March 2019.

Thank you.

+ anyway don't you think that current sports design front end is a bit weedy for the big aero rear end?

I owned two 987.2 Spyders and have been making enquiries about a 981 this week. For me the 718 has the best rear of the lot, looks mean AF in Black.
