All correct I was laughed at when I phoned my opc for a 981 spyder allocation after seeing it at good wood! I was very lucky when I went to another franchised opc left a 5K deposit got a phone call nov saying someone had got cold feet! The car was on for me! Happy days, phoned my local opc a year ago about swooping my spyder for the incoming one! Again he talked bullst what was my buying history etc sorry sir we reserve GT type cars for our special customers! If I had been face to face I would have thrown a few choice words at him! T@@sser
Well done on getting your hands on a 981 Spyder ! What colour? Do you mind sending us a picture?Let us know how you get on with buying the new one; ask for two, one for me and one for you !
This is my current tool:

Unfortunately, neither will be “readily available”.... It’s how Porsche (and other prestige brands) roll..... You need to “earn” your “right” to a GT car these days..... And by earn, i mean— spend huge amounts of cash at a single OPC.... And then still with no guarantee of an allocation....!! 911R is sadly correct: it is often cheaper to simply pay the overs.... At least that way there is less “risk” involved.... A friend of mine has spent £1.2 million in the past 12 months at his/our local OPC..... Still no 991.2 GT3-RS allocation was forthcoming....
Was that part of some fleet related purchase? Crazy money to be dropping trying to chase unicorn GT cars, like earlier poster said just pay the overs if you really want it that bad I was late to the party for a new 981 Spyder or GT4 - all were allocated. But decided to email c20+ OPC's & got a call from one saying a customer is considering dropping out of his 981 Spyder purchase & would I be interested. I placed a deposit the next day. i was also able to lock down my own spec which was great. The same OPC got my business this year for a new Cayenne Plat Edition for the wife. i am hoping I shall be in good position for a 718 GT4 with the same OPC. But must admit I'am really enjoying my Aston Martin VantageS manual at the moment - it growls like an angry lion.

i never use to 'get' Aston's - I am a big Porsche fan. The Porsche will (depending on model) be quicker, generally sharper to drive (better chassis) etc but there is definitely something special about the Aston - it's more of an occasion. Maybe its an age thing as well
Anyway, if you really want a new Spyder or GT4 & when they get officially announced you have nothing to lose by emailing the OPC's - its a very long shot. Otherwise as already said buy a GTS & build up a relationship with your OPC first. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Wonder why they don’t meet demand and produce more of these cars..!
I’m looking at getting a well species Boxster 718 GTS if Spyder/GT4 are unavailable. Having drove many sports cars, I’m sold on the Porsche mid engine concep. In parallel I’m playing with the idea of an M2 Competition...
In answer to your question I think there are two things. 1/ No publicity is bad publicity. In other words we're ranting to all about not been able to get hold of a GREAT CAR. So the message is the company might have some 'interesting business practices but they make such good car every one whats one, ergo I want one too. So they sell more cars. 2/ We on this forum are a small and specialised group of buyers and are looking at the problem through microscope. There is not the mass market for these cars. A third reason I guess If these cars were available to all the one above wouldn't happen and the desire to own one would be less because 'Oh I can have one if I want, there's nothing special about it.I’m looking at getting a well species Boxster 718 GTS if Spyder/GT4 are unavailable. My be things have moved on since I brought my Spyder but I don't have a lot of money (Because I own a Spyder ) and had only brought one car of the dealer previously but I did go it, have a chat, talk car and be genuinely enthusiastic about the brand and cars. I talked and posted genuinely about how well the dealership treats/treated me. I did all this long before I knew of a (981) Spyder coming along. I don't know if it would help these days but I like to think that forming a genuine relationship with people /dealers /shop owner/ whoever will work.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes complete sense. I am getting an idea on how to better go about it. Keeping a positive intention indeed helps is life generally ! Hi S, if I was the friend you refer to I would be changing OPCs pronto. A £1.2 m 12 monthly spend should guarantee at least a GT2 RS and GT3 RS.

Sorry! Thought I had it worked out. Anyway you guys know what your looking at.
I love it to but, have I mentioned the noise?
Awesome car and great colour/ wheel combination, congratulation and enjoy !!I love it to but, have I mentioned the noise?
What is your experience in operating the roof mechanism? Is it as pain free as noted in most reviews?

Thanks Boxster-race
Really the roof is no hassle at all, less than 30 secs to put back up slightly longer to take down in my view. But certainly not fussy in anyway.
My GF struggles pulling the roof back up as you need to pull it centrally and she’s on tip toes trying to do it.... means she’s less likely to want drive it, which I’m happy with.
Love the Alcantara wheel it’s superb and gear change is just perfection. But my god the engine just wants to be revved it’s just keeps going, I’m sure I’ve had 80 in second.
