Why has it not sold do you think?

It looks a very cheap car
Higher mileage and no AC. However when you consider the first spyders mostly don't have AC its a bargain.

Oh Yeah.....

Cycled up the Simplon pass in 2005 from Domodossola. 4hrs uphill (with breaks), pasta and a beer at that pink cafe, then a cracking 23km downhill into Brig.

Top fun! Incredible views!

Lack of AC on a Spyder is a pain in the winter and colder months in terms of demisting.

Most buyers demand it.

It's still a cheap car for someone though...lack of buckets also an issue. Just shows how spec can make a huge difference!

But as the AC compressor in most (maybe all) cars doesnt run below 5 Deg C its not that much of an issue in those conditions.

Yep and the p11 buckets were standard fit at no cost.

Loving my newly acquired 981 Spyder. Its a cracking car and 2 cars in one being a soft top.
I'm usually more of a tin top guy having had 3 GT4's and a GT3 now but this really could be a keeper for a while unless the new one really does up the game.

I'm trailering it off to Auto Wax Works in Oxford to be wrapped as here in Wales, they do pick up quite a few marks when driven properly.

Its very similar to the GT4, slightly different ride and if anything more enjoyable as it moves around a lot more only with the roof off is even more intoxicating. It sounds really very nice, quite exotic at times.

I suppose my only 'want' is to extract a little more power. What are my options here in the UK without spending 10k on having loads of work done. Is there an option at less outlay and extracting another 20 -30hp?

No A/C is a big problem when coming to resale time again No Heated seats for me as well mileage is higher than most on the market and yellow is not everyone's cuppa.

That said it you can live without the above and could get it for 60k looks a fair deal.

20/30hp, I think can be achieved with Manifolds, Plenum and Throttle Body along with a Remap., so 5K. That would get you 400 easily. Would be mega!

Thanks for that smile... As with the GT4 and Spyder, they just don't rev that well so I want to free this up.
Who's my very best bet for doing this work in the UK?

You can order parts from Jens, Cargraphic, Fabspeed (Europe and US) but get them fitted by a specialist? There just bolt on and off replacements. The map, you can use Cobb and it will come pre-tuned to the mods supplied, or Jens in German can map it on the Dyno. I don't know who in the UK could custom map it sorry.

I'm also thinking about doing it on mine..I've spoken to DMS and its circa £1k to tune a GT4/Spyder to 405HP..Its apparently easier as these cars were detuned from new so its basically restoring factory settings..

A map won't get it upto 405hp at all. I don't know how DMS can quote that.

Let us know how you get on if you go for it, they quote the GTS will get to 390hp from just a map. When in really like it needs alot of work and even after spending 8K its extremely hard.

John, Ive just spoken to DMS. Tony seems like a really good guy. He said that they've done loads of GT4's and on their rolling road they produce just over 400hp with a simple remap and free up the top end.

They seem to have really good reviews. Does anyone else have any experience of using them? Seems a bit more cost effective than replacing all the parts for maybe just another 20hp?
I know of one other GT4 (in Carmine Red) that has been to DMS for the c400hp remap. Owner seemed happy with it... I didn't get to go out in the car as i only found at at the end of the track day. PCGB Charity Day @ Goodwood, which was session-ed, and didn't run in the same session as him so couldn't do a comparison with my stock engine car either.

DMS used to be reputable and then they had all the crazy days of remapped BMW 335d's being the fastest things on wheels.

Other tuners claim about 20HP..Normally its nigh on impossible on a NASP however as Porsche detuned it by 20HP from the identical 991.1S, its merely reclaiming those lost horses.

I took my 981 spyder out today . Top down . Is a lovely car .
I have my name in the hat for the new one as rude not to but i dont think i will change unless the new one is a special car.

The new one will be a bit faster but i dont think it needs more speed.

If a turbo i wont get the new one .

Dms said it’s a 3 yr package and the original map can go back on at any time by sending a tech to your house should the car need to go to opc. This is included in the price too for 3 yrs.

Might give it a go. There’s no doubt the car would benefit from an extra 30 HP. Plus warranty is safer as there are no tangible replace to components.

Edited to say:

I’ve since read the opc’s can easily now detect if a car has been mapped and taken back to standard. Remains are not recommended for warrantied cars. Anyone have and experience?
