I have owned both - in fact I’m on my 2nd 718 Spyder (long story) It comes down to £. The 718 plus a JCR titanium race pipe and a fast road geo is an amazing thing - it’s a proper baby GT now. However, as you say it will cost about £k30 more than a 981 - a good chunk of which you get back on resale. It’s most definitely better dynamically, with more low down torque, a modern inside and in the flesh it’s a really sexy looking car - however, it’s probably not £k30 better - so if you can afford the extra, I’d highly recommend it - if you can’t justify it I’d stick with the 981 as it’s a lovely thing.
Thanks to all for the thoughts will take the advice and try and get a spin in a 718 to decide. Edited by RSVP911 on Thursday 1st October 21:31

So out of the blue offered a 718 Spyder for delivery Q1 2020. I have a very low miles 981 Spyder I picked up earlier this year and genuinely love the car. If the 718 had been offered beforehand I would not have hesitated but now not so sure. It boils down to is the change to the newer car worth circa £25k?
Benefits would be a brand new car as opposed to one 4 years old (but like brand new). To me little to choose between on looks though prefer rear of new car. New model proper GT suspension though I am not likely to track. Marginally more HP but think identical 0-60, though reputedly more flexible torque on new model. Updated interior on 718 but overall quite similar. Havent driven 718 Spyder but on sound track, by the number of folks looking for after market exhausts seems 981 wins here.
Head says stick with what I have, heart says go get a new shiny toy. I know some on here have owned both so great to hear their views particularly how they compare on road in terms of compliance and ride quality for distance driving as often tour down through France All thoughts appreciated and know it can be a very personal and subjective matter with no right answer.
On the ride quality, I can’t compare the two, but my girlfriend and I drove from Northern Switzerland to Rimini area with some detours on the way and both agreed it was surprisingly comfortable. Our car has 718 buckets. We are both used to firm suspensions though. Benefits would be a brand new car as opposed to one 4 years old (but like brand new). More 981 love here.
I would endorse what RSVP911 has said.
I had a 718 GT4 alongside my Spyder, but still always picked up the Spyder keys.
For me a new exhaust would be a must, especially if coming from a 981 as many have.
I don’t need all the new tech in the 718 either.
I’m 28k miles into my 981 now and looking forward to making many more memories.
Mines the GR car last weekend at Beaulieu.

Also available in other colours😂😂
Also looks good in Guards Red , as demonstrated in the photo above.
We came int Beaulieu together , swapping places on the road so we could get the full benefit of hearing the exhaust when following . I never get tired of the noise this Spyder makes , a big part of the ownership experience for me , along with the looks , the engine , the way it drives , the interior , the roof down option etc etc etc 😀😀😀💕

Wow!!!!!https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/10885914?c...
ETA - showing as sold already. Not surprised...even with the crappy prep effort before the photos were taken!

Thanks for the feedback, it does hurt paying such ridiculous prices for a very simple service on a Boxster. I ended up taking it to Manthey Racing (OPC). Mainly as the drive over is fantastic so I made a little 150mile tour out of it to justify it; man-maths or something

Good to see another Spyder with PCCBs at the ‘ring.

Just looking for a bit of confirmation. My Spyder is going for a minor service tomorrow. I have been quoted 1000 by both of my two local OPC's (Trier and Manthey), for what is effectively an oil change and 30min inspection. Is this the going rate for such a service as it seems somewhat more than I would have guessed for such a simply service?
That’s ridiculous for a minor service on a 987. PhantomPH said:

Regarding the service, I had a good look at what they did, basically a check torque of the door lock fixtures, general inspection, oil and filter and brake fluid (a minor service but all the 10year inspection paperwork was also fllled out). Bill came in at €821, so a little less than what was quoted. Still expensive if you ask me for what was carried out but I guess on a 15k miles rare spec car, that to date has only been to OPC, it would be a false economy to take it elsewhere. Funny thing was Manthey could do the service whenever I wanted but the other OPC had a 1 month waiting list for a service. I have also used Manthey for other work in the past such a a differential rebuild or diagnostics work and they have been quite fair.
