Just parked up and was only away 10 mins, but when I got back had to wait 17 minutes while the oil check ran. It was OK , but is that length of time normal?

You didn't actually wait the 17 minutes did you? Is isn't, or at least shouldn't be, necessary to check every time you start the car.

Just check it when you start up first time of the day.

In answer to your original question, yes they can take that long to check when having been run recently. As above, check when cold and there's no wait.

S gen2. My oil check won't work until the engine is warm. Not sure what the computer classes as warm, because even with 80 showing on the gauge, I still get message " engine not warmed up". Give me a dipstick any day.
