I'm after some advice. I sat in my first couple of boxers yesterday, 2006 examples, 2.7 & S models.

To be fair, I thought it would be more of a struggle getting in to it, certainly was when I owned a 944 many years ago. I managed to slide my 6'5" frame in with relative ease, head wasn't touching the roof, however the pedals do feel offset to the left. The two boots were a surprise, larger than I though they would be.

It will primarily be a weekend car, although the prospect of longer trips would be nice. I know it won't have the comfort level of the daily (7 series), although I'm assuming less back destroying than the bike, which will be moving to track duties only.

Any thoughts on ownership greatly received.

Hi there, I have one as my daily, am about 6 1". My wife also has one and she's close to 6.0" both cars are 2.7s and 986s. Great cars and really comfortable on a day to day basis, I couldn't recommend them highly enough, hence we bought two! I do all of my own work on both of the cars and that makes them very cheap to own. I have replaced the MAF on one, the water pump, all service work, brakes, poly v belts, oil air separator, etc etc. Cheap insurance on a multi car and swift cover is coming in mega cheap at the moment, I am 40 and got quoted £180!
I do not believe that you could buy a better car for the money right now, oh and they do close to 30mpg no a daily.

I'm 6 foot 6 and was considering buying a new boxster back in 2004.

I could fit in ok so Porsche lent me one for a day. I quickly realised it was too cramped for any length of time behind the wheel. I bought something else instead.

I know it's going to be tricky to get a decent long test drive in a second hand car, but that's probably the only way you can be sure?

I'm 6'5 and fit in ok. Check out Brey Krause seat rail if you want more space.

IMO and not particularly scientific but I've found sports seats don't give you quite as much space as regular seats.

Boxers you say?

Well, I'm 6' 3" and find my large size Red Torpedo Crawfords fit me just fine.
Comfy in the gusset with a nice waistband biggrin

My Boxster on the other hand, can feel a touch too small.
(981 is a perfect fit though)

I am 6'1" and don't find any problem. I found that the extendable lead made all the difference.
Obedience training also helped. Great dogs, superb family pet.

On the car front , I had no problem fitting in the boxster.

Sport seats dont go as far back as standard.

There used be a chap on here Simon who used to come to the London Meets,6,4 I believe and was fine though he was slim not sure how it would be if you 6,4 squared;)

But 6'4" is 6.333333 recurring, so squared is 40.111111 recurring.

I am a pedant. biggrin

I'm 6'1.

We had a 986 & now we have two 987s.

There's plenty of space in the cabin but the problem is: at full adjustment, the steering wheel is too close to the pedals.

If the seat doesn't go back far enough then if it's like my 993 you'll be able to take the seats out & re-mount them using different holes on the sliders (or get a local engineering firm to drill new holes if need be). Anyway, I should think the seats will be fine.

I think a smaller steering wheel would help immensely, or even a flat bottomed one.

Small steering wheels are no good on cars that have been designed for 380mm wheels: they reduce the amount of information being transmitted from the road wheels to your fingertips in much the same way that a heavy steering wheel does.

I hate flat bottomed steering wheels. They make sense on some race cars, where you can go from lock to lock without moving your hands’ position on the wheel, but on road cars they’re just daft – another stupid marketing gimmick designed to appeal to people who know next to nothing about driving & think they’re cool because it makes their car like an F1 car.

Yeah yeah yeah..... But apart from that, it'd give me a bit more room.
I'm not a driving God so 'steering' feedback means bugger all to me.
smile

( I get your point about a small steering wheel not designed for other aspects of the car, though)

It's true, he looks like a dwarf driving a shoe. His bonce protrudes so far above the screen that in the summer his forehead collects flies.
