Evening All,

As someone who has wasted far too much time viewing Pistonheads, I thought it was finally time to register, and what better time than just after picking up my used Cayman from the OPC in Sheffield.

Car is just under four years old, one previous owner, and with just over 14k on the clock. Spec is fairly light but has pretty much everything I need - full leather, heated seats, parking sensors, and upgraded steering wheel. The original owner also went for a CD changer and coloured centre caps for the wheels.

The car was also advertised as having 18" Boxster S II wheels, but was actually sitting on Cayman S II wheels when I went to view. I originally thought this was just a mistake in the description, but while I was mulling over whether or not it was the car for me, the salesman mentioned that the car also actually came with a set of 18" Cayman S II wheels with winter tyres (. Hmmmm. £2.5k worth of extra wheels...

Having decided it was the car for me I managed to negotiate what I thought was a pretty good deal. Just over £500 more than the WBAC price for my car, plus 10% off the advertised price along with a tank of fuel and mats. The dealer also agreed to order the auxiliary input for the stereo free of charge while I paid for installation. Before going for the original viewing this was pretty much the deal I was looking for, although the extra wheels were obviously a massive bonus.

New front discs had also just been fitted and the four year service was carried out prior to collection.

I have to say the whole purchasing process couldn't have been better and all credit to Oliver at JCT600 for doing a great job. Car was inside and covered ready for collection with my name displayed next to it. Loads of opportunities for photos and videos and the whole thing felt very special. Four key rings also included!

Initial impressions of the car are fantastic and in many ways it's more of a car than I'll ever need. While the spec at first looked a little sparse (having test driven a PDK car with Nav, Sports Chrono, PDK etc) on reflection I really do think it has everything I need. Even the standard Air Con seems to do a good job and I'm not missing climate control at all (it really should be standard though). As far as bluetooth is concerned, who wants phone calls interrupting that engine / exhaust sound!

My only concern prior to collection was whether or not Aqua Blue was the colour for me. On numerous occasions I've nearly gone with blue cars but have always changed my mind at the last minute. Now I have the car though to my eyes it really is a stunning colour. At times it can look, well, just blue, but when the light catches it, I really do think it's fantastic.

A couple of pics for your pleasure:

Thanks for looking and reading.

Hi and welcome

Lovely looking car, great colour.

Small world just brought my 2008 Cayman DS from Oliver last week, echo what you found, great deal and service loving the Cayman, been running a Boxster for about 3 years nice car but the Cayman is so good to drive, how many times have you looked out of the window just to admire it.

Lovely looking car. Black really does look awesome when clean. I also think I remember seeing it on the Porsche website when I was looking for mine.

You're right, I can't stop looking at the car. Just wish it would stop raining!

I think you got a good deal there. It's a good age to buy; big service done and warranty extended. If it's right for you, it's the right car. No point having bits you don't need.

great looking ride... v similar to what I went through 3 yrs ago when I picked up an 987.1 cayman s from Swindon OPC... 11k miles (after 5 yrs) on delivery and put on 6k miles per annum since... a joy every time i get in it...

the 987.2 is certainly an improvement on the 987.1 in terms of PCM 3 and the front DRLs...

trying to justify the new 981 cayman s as my 987 is getting on but the man math isn't working out frown

Welcome and lovely colour.

PS: The guy with the new GT3 from the other thread will NOT be impressed that you got a full tank of fuel in the deal!

Thanks once again for the comments. Took the car for a good drive today. Starting to get more comfortable with the power but still can't quite get my head around the speed you can take into and carry out of corners. I'll definitely be running out of nerve long before the car runs out of grip for a good while yet. A track day would be an awesome way of learning the car's limits but I do think I'd prefer a day where the car was provided! Not sure I can get anything else out of the OPC I bought the car from but perhaps if I ask nicely they'll throw a Silverstone session my way...

Bagged myself one of those just before Christmas (perfect pressie selfie!) and simply love it! I must say, however, as much as I like it in Black, that aqua blue is bloody lovely!

Enjoy yourselves lads!

Actually, whilst here, can anyone tell me about the Cayman S Design Edition 1? My one was first registered in 2007 but is a 2008 model (?!!). Is it the 987.2 or 987.1? Any experts out there that might be able to enlighten us newbies?

Thanks and sorry for hijacking the thread (not usually my style but whilst I have you here!).

The official line from the dealers was that the discs were fine but cosmetically didn't meet their retail standards. No idea if this is true or not but I'm happy knowing they've been replaced (for whatever reason).

Hi JM,

It will be a 987.1. The 987.2 was launched in 2009. This saw the 2.9 litre engine fitted to the Cayman, uprated power for the Cayman S, removal of the troublesome IMS, and some minor external tweaks (LED rear lights / DRLs), some pieces of interior trim painted black instead of grey, and updated audio systems.

Lovely cars the Design Editions.
