Am wondering what the likely condition of a battery will be after being away for around 17 days. I realise that the car will shut various background equipment after a week but is there still a chance that the battery will be flat after such a time. I could leave the TVR Chimaera for several weeks with no detrimental effect but have limited knowledge of this scenario with my new (to me) Cayman.

By the way, I love the car!!

General experiences seem to be you return to a flat or near flat battery. Might be worth considering a battery charger/conditioner from CTEK (pricey but good) or similar to keep your battery in tip top condition.

My 2006 Cayman S has been left without being started for three weeks at a time on two occasions since I got it four months ago and it started without any hesitation whatsoever.

Mine frequently goes a fortnight without being used at this time of year, and I never have a problem with it at all (mine's an 08 S as well).

Not using my Boxster S much at the moment but I'm surprised how well the battery is holding up. Being 88Ah helps, plenty of charge in reserve. My manual says it goes into standby mode after 5 days to save the battery.

I also have a Chimaera and getting into it to clip on the leads to charge it up requires contortions as you know. It's a doddle on the Boxster, and I presume the Cayman? 2 plastic turn clips under the bonnet, and voilá.

Assuming you can get the bonnet open...

Hi there
My Boxster S sits In the garage for 2 weeks sometimes and it always starts first time. I have no power in the garage as it's in a compound.

You'd have to have a very flat battery to not get the solenoid to release the front bonnet catch.

The car could always be left unlocked with it on the catch. tongue out

I did it by accident once. I wondered why the horn was tooting at me as I tried to remote lock the car!

I would say it very much depends if it’s the original battery or not. A six year-old battery could well be near the end of its useful life anyway. A newer one should last 2-3 weeks no problem (you may have to unlock the car manually with the key rather than the remote to ‘wake’ the systems that have shut down).

You'll definitely have to do this.

Cayman manual said:
If the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the remote control within 7 days, the remote control standby function is switched off (to prevent discharging of the vehicle battery).

1. In this case, unlock the driver’s door with the key at the door lock. Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered.

2. Press button 1 on the remote control. The remote control is now activated again and
the alarm system is switched off.

easier just to pull the door handle (this wakes the car up), then press unlock button
