That would be sensible. Different pork but I weighed pretty much everything when building my 944 S2 race car, the original spec complete 944 doors are 27Kg each, to put that into context 2 doors weighs about the same as a 944 transaxle gearbox. Stock electric leather seats about the same. Its interesting looking at the latest Pork the same trends seem to hold true which frankly I find amazing (stock S2 around 1340 Kg, my race car 1120 Kg), one would have expected they would have found a way to make a lot of the stuff like seats much lighter over the years but alas no it seems.

Electric seats are boat anchors. Doors are so heavy I can barely lift them by myself. Hatch weighs a ton too. Insulation over engine cover is ridiculous. Again all things done to make car feel upscale as opposed to performance enhancing .

Yes for track car door bars required but I'm not currently tracking car . All autocrsses on flatt smooth surfaces at reasonable speeds . So rear cage works for me now.

Ok guys. I broke 1000 kg barrier and made car wider and added aero. 975 kg now! I'm thinking Cayman is actually pretty light given it is a steel chassis. New target 900 kg.

Mega. Have you got a listing of the part weights by any chance?

Keep up the good work, it is genuinely interesting that the scope for weight reduction on the Cayman is so big.

I wish I were that organized! I pretty much just pull things off and either chuck them or sell them on ebay. There are hundreds of items to weigh. When you tear into these cars its mind boggling how many things they bolt onto these cars and how heavy some things are. For example weather stripping is very heavy. I only left strips so doors wont rattle.

Next bits: Stock dash weighs a lot too. Im moving to composite dash. Pulling heavy OEM adjustable steering column out and putting in lightweight unit, eliminating power steering pump and pulley in favor of elective pump in front trunk, removing engine compartment fan , replacing OEM radiator fans with lightweight fans. Titanium lug studs, putting even lighter suspension in the car now.

900 kg Cayman S track and hill climber is possible. And that's with heavier 6 speed trans and drive train. Base model with 5 speed likely could go to 875kg.

I'd like to think it became so light that it eventually floated away! angel
