Has anyone else found that their cars can seem rock solidly built one day and then rattle like mad on the same roads and same journey the next day?

I've been putting it down to temperature fluctuation and things expanding and contracting at different rates weather is playing around, but I spent an entire journey the other day apologising to my passenger about the rattles and then they were completely gone the next time I drove.

Not creaks, btw - rattles.
Not exactly - but what I have noticed over the winter months is that the ride becomes stiffer when it's colder. Possibly damper fluid becoming more viscous, possible (winter) tyres becoming less flexible. It hasn't induced rattles in my (PASM) Cayman, but might in a more stiffly set up car, or in the less-rigid Boxster.

I'm loving mine in every single way.

The noise just makes me smile.

I can enjoy driving, without risking jail every time I hang on to the gears.

I will never have a better car than this, it's utter perfection.

I've never seen another one on the road either, something I kind of like!

Mine is a bit like that. It's been in once but has come back slightly better in the area it went in for but has gained rattles elsewhere. It'll be going back in again soon.

Rattles on mine from passenger door card again. Hopefully getting sorted at service. Rattles only covered for two years according to OPC.
Tail pipes pitted again. Looks like corrosion, again I want it sorting under warranty

I'm loving my CGTS more and more at the moment:
  • Plenty of power for the road, too much traffic these days to use any more in the UK
You need to get out early morning or late evening around some b roads in the middle of no where and enjoy, UK still has some of the best roads.

I do that when I can, but more power wouldn't make it more enjoyable smile

Agreed. But more power, better brakes, more grip as a package, will probably be more enjoyable.

That would be a GT4 I guess, and I'm not sure it would for me.

I don't crave more power (yet), but if I had any criticism, it would be that you only get the 'power' when you are running the risk of getting arrested.

I'm not sure if that's a gearing thing or a potential change to where the engine delivers it's peak power and torque, but I would like that "4krpm+" experience to be a little more accessible.

That being said, that is also an element of the character that I like...so I am a little torn! smile Just wish that I could experience it in more than one gear without going to jail. wink

For me the (main) problem is the hole in the torque curve between 2500 and 4000. The engine is pleasantly torquey for toodling around , but then goes a bit flat until 4k when it comes alive. As you say, much of the fun is in licence losing country. PDKs lower gearing helps, but the real solution is to fill in the torque hole.

Shorter gearing would do the job, really like working the engine and having the power from 6000 to 7800.

Just a quick observation on PDK vs manual gearboxes. There were 445 CGTSs registered, of which 135 were manual and 410 PDK. So that's 1 manual car for every 3 PDK cars.

However, manual cars within the OPC network are like rocking horse poo. There are 2 currently for sale which have replaced the previous 2 that were there for a little while. So that's only 4 manual cars going through the OPC network in the last 6 months or so. The current figures are:
  • OPC cars - 2 manual, 14 PDK (expected: 2 vs 6)
  • PH cars - 4 manual, 22 PDK (expected: 4 vs 12)
So it seems the owners of manual cars seem to hang on to them a bit longer than their PDK counterparts. Maybe down to the car not being a daily driver and something of a fun car? Who knows, but I found it an interesting observation...

It doesn't seem to go that way I'm afraid! Pricing seems to be very much linked to list price.

I was joking. smile

There is a bum for every seat. If someone specifies bright pink paint and iffy wheels, then at least one person would like that spec. It's just a case of finding the 2nd person with the same tastes.

Mine is manual with PTV etc etc. Manual could put a lot of people off but it could also appeal to a different segment. It is what it is.

I find the GT4 pricing thread interesting where the guy is monitoring the market and posting updates. I don't think one for the GTS would cause me to lose/gain sleep at night, but it's an interesting barometer for sure.

PTV doesn't seem to have been specced very often, I've been watching cars for sale out of interest. Manual and PTV would be my choice too and there aren't huge numbers about.

Keep hold of yours, like I'm doing with mine wink

Ha ha - sounds like they are not that rare. wink

Mine is going nowhere...for now. If the 718 GT4 is at all possible to get for a lowlife like me, then that could tempt me to change. Otherwise I don't see why I would show strict loyalty to the Porsche brand and like to try different things, so yu never know what is around the corner (upcoming TVR?)
