Discussion
I do wish we could have some balanced views on this subject. Clearly there were serious issues with the N0 Pirellis which have been acknowledged by Pirelli - and Pirelli have, for all those of us who have raised it with them, been generous. The N1 is a very different tyre and for many to decry all Pirelli tyres is simply to ignore any number of independent tests. There are actually (as far as I am aware) NO independent tests of Porsche approved tyres, but ALL of the independent test of Pirelli high performance tyres Pirelli do well. See http://www.evo.co.uk/volkswagen/golf-gti/18309/bes... for example. Would I choose Michelin over Pirelli on the basis of that - yes - but Pirellis run the Michelins very close and outperform them (and everything else) in a number of areas.

I would be grateful to understand how and in what areas the Michelins are an improvement?
As I only collected the car on Friday, my views on them are still quiet new. However, I noticed the following straight away on the long drive home. - The car feels stable and predictable in wet and/or colder conditions.
- On full lock the car no longer hops or feels weird
- The ride quality / road noise has improved quiet dramatically
These tyres where supplied and fitted by the OPC, so they are (N0) rated.
If you have any other questions please let me know.

Define balanced? My own experiences of these tyres are very poor, I've spun the car coming off a round about that was below (30Mph - That's with all the safety systems on still) in wet conditions and I have also had a number of other experiences again in the wet where the car unpredictably lets go all at low speeds. Again another wet experience is when changing lanes on the motorway and you move over the white lines the car feels like it slides off them and twitches some times.
I don't know about you but I lost all confidence driving in the wet with them and didn't feel safe, so it would take quiet a lot for me to move back to any Pirelli’s.
Interesting, I’ve had the Pirelli’s on for my entire Porsche ownership (2 1/2 years in the bgts) and never had an issue with them, but makes me wonder what the car would be like on Michelin’s now.
I had Michelin’s for years, ps2’s on my renaultsports, Clio 182, megane R26 and Megane 250, and I swore by them. The two issues, price and wear, they are very expensive, and wear much quicker.
Can’t remember what tyres my slk55 had, but the Porsche were my first Pirelli’s, and like I say I’ve been happy with them. Changed the rears at 18k I think, the fronts are fine at 25k, and they were cheap, I paid £200 a tyre from opc, for a 20” tyre, the Michelin’s, for 18” 10 years ago cost £225 each.
That’s not the say I would scrimp on tyre cost, as I know how important they are, but when I changed the rears, I never even considered another tyre.
I believe my 991.2 gts will come with the Pirelli’s too.

But that is N0s and for practical purposes irrelevant now. Just because Pirelli made one mistake doesn't make all their tyres rubbish. I could argue that I'd never buy a Porsche (or Ferrari) again because a few of them caught fire before they sorted out the problem. The original Michelin X (probably before your time) was, by a long way, the worst tyre I have ever driven in the wet. It's successor - the XAS was, by contrast, very good. about to pull trigger on a GTS purchase but in this thread alone it seems like 3-4 cars are going to be swapped due to imminent new arrivals...
concerns me that for the sake of waiting a few weeks, some fresh metal might arrive for sale..
who is chopping theirs in ?
It depends what you want, really. Do you have a penchant for manual vs PDK? A colour preference? Do you have any must haves such as GTS interior, GTS exterior, Bose, Climate, PCCB, PTV and so on?concerns me that for the sake of waiting a few weeks, some fresh metal might arrive for sale..

Could be that the extra cars about to be chopped in, are not going to match your criteria anyway.
Unless you really have your heart set on finding a pretty definite spec, I'd say start shopping now. If I've learned one thing, it's that really no two GTS cars are the same, so finding your 'holy grail' spec may be impossible anyway.
Post your requirements here and you never know.
Good luck!
Got word my 911 went into production last Friday, due mid March, so mine is going up very soon.
Carmine red Boxster gts fully loaded (except for carbon ceramics and ptv)
Standard pasm suspension, 25k miles (lot of motorway)
2015 65 plate.
Will be advertising on here, just waiting to hear about trade in value.

Thanks for taking the time to respond (and others too)If you have any other questions please let me know.
Thankfully, I haven't had any real dicey moments with my car but the P Zeros do not inspire me with confidence (particularly in cold & wet conditions) and I really do not like the feel / noise at low speed with steering lock applied.
I should at least try the P Zeros in warmer weather before swapping them out but I can't help but think the Michelins would be the better choice for me based on the feedback here and the British climate!
Cheers
Rich

Please do drop me a line when you are ready to sell yours; I may be interested. I think you can send me a message via PH, but if not, let me know and I will let you have my email address.
Thanks

I’m looking to buy a 981GTS (either boxster or cayman). Was potentially gonna deal with an OPC, so have a rough idea of prices, but if anyone is going to p/x soon (within the next 3-4 weeks) and would like a hassle free private sale, please let me know.
Interior must be black, and i would like the GTS interior package for choice. Ideally 1 owner from new, but would consider 2.
