Discussion
Pretty sure I've had this conversation before, but I'm still amazed that 'number of owners' matters so much to people. The condition of the car right now in front of me, is what matters. The bottom line is that we have no idea how any previous owner treated any car we buy - unless you are owner 1. So 1 previous or 10, it makes little difference. (yes, I know more increases the odds of a wker, but that applies to all things - even Internet forums!)
I've (unfortunately) been around people with brand new Ferraris/Lambos who fire them up cold and bounce off the limiter to impress their mates - the car is about the image not the drive so they treat it as such. I wouldn't want one of those cars ever...if I knew. But we don't.
I'd say as long as the car passes a good inspection, comes with a decent warranty and shows no evidence of ever having been smoked in, I would never walk away from a good car that happened to have a few previous owners.
Although I think I'm in the minority! Ha ha.

This is a very quiet thread compared to the R thread......
Are GTS owners less enthusiastic???
I think it's more likely that GTS owners are much more satisfied with their purchase, so are out driving instead. Ha ha.Are GTS owners less enthusiastic???
I've been looking at picking up another, recently. When I look at the price difference between a 2.5GTS and a 4.0GTS, I start to get rather torn, then end up parking the search.
I had a loaner 2.5GTS Boxster for a few weeks and really liked the car. I also didn't hate the sound (and as a previous 981CGTS owner, I'd like to think I am comparing to - arguably - the best sounding Cay/Box there has been) and the little extra power over the S was not massively noticeable on the public road.
But all that being said, stretching the budget a bit (or waiting another year for depreciation) for a 4.0GTS might be the more sensible ownership choice (already thinking resale etc).

I'm told by a friend in the trade lots of owners of 4pot GTS want out so in theory their should be some "bargains " about at some point.
Agreed.....The new 4 litre definitely has some way to fall from mid 70s.
That's what's turning my head at the minute - the 4-pots seem criminally under-priced given the fact that they are still amazing cars. Perhaps they have even further to fall (and faster) or perhaps people will realise the bargains to be had, take a test drive and (quite rightly) decide to nab themselves a brilliant car! Dilemma....Agreed.....The new 4 litre definitely has some way to fall from mid 70s.
As much as I loved the sound of my 981CGTS, I must say that on the odd occasion (usually a morning commute when not in the mood) the cabin was not the most relaxing and serene place to sit. A small price to pay, I suppose!
I bought this and it works fine to pop out the top of the cover

Tempted. But 5 owners now and not keen on the bling Turbo wheels. Great spec though...
What number owner were you and how long did you have it for? Keen to hear your thoughts on that car.
sorry i did not see this... i was the second owner, i bought it when it had 10k miles, sold it at 33k miles. What number owner were you and how long did you have it for? Keen to hear your thoughts on that car.
lots of fun, crracking car... sold it because i got relocated abroad. Just check the pccb disk carefully, i did several track days with this.

I see Shark Blue has appeared on the 718’s.
I think I'd have to see Shark Blue in the 'flesh' before I spec'd it. I say that as the driver of a Turbo Blue Audi. I imagine it to be similar to Audi's Turbo Blue and Porsche's Miami Blue...but I genuinely could be miles off. Now that the 981 GTS is far from the latest/(greatest), the earliest examples are 7 years old, the 4.0 GTS has arrived (available with both PDK/manual) where does it fit in in the grand scheme of Caysters from 2005 to date? Trying to find a well specced (or rather the 'right' subjective spec) 981S is a headache. 981GTS prices seem to have fallen gently recently (but still seem very strong compared to 981S)
Depending on what's on the market, would you hunt out a late well specced 987.2S (or an R?), 981GTS or 4.0GTS (all PDK) initial purchase price aside if you were doing max 7k pa (could be far less given covid and wfh dynamics) and no track work? My gut says 4.0GTS is too new, long wait and (begrudgingly) more depreciation vs the other 2 but finding a good 2nd hand example/personal spec is probably just as tough and could be as long as the wait on a 4.0. Did the old debate of PASM vs X73 ever get settled?
Been out of the loop for a while so not sure where the market/value really is.

You'll be waiting until late '21, early '22 for a GTS 4.0 I think, so a long wait.Depending on what's on the market, would you hunt out a late well specced 987.2S (or an R?), 981GTS or 4.0GTS (all PDK) initial purchase price aside if you were doing max 7k pa (could be far less given covid and wfh dynamics) and no track work? Only you can know how old a car you're willing to take on. Older car will be cheaper, higher mileage and require more maintenance (probably). As you're going PDK, I'd want as new a car as possible as it's always improving.
PASM better for all round use and a more comfortable ride, X73 sportier but needs to be paired with bucket seats not comforts IMHO.
A PDK 981 GTS sounds like it could be the sweet spot for you, but with demand outstripping supply for a lot of niche cars at the moment it's going to be tough to find a car you like if you're spec sensitive. Aim for £45k or thereabouts.

Jay Emm didn't like the 4.0 718 he tested in both variants? The resonance at steady mid revs doesn't sound at all good and somewhat resembling the terrible sound symposer fitted to the 981GTS
I saw a recent comment by a popular automotive photographer, where he was not a fan of the 4.0 either. Could this be as crazy as the 2.5GTS actually being the better choice?Could you imagine...the world may very well end!!!

I would do your own test drive and draw your own conclusions.I’ve owned both a 981 GTS and now a 718 GTS 4.0, and I just can’t correlate what he’s saying to how I find the car and the engine.
Each to their own of course.
