I am looking for a 2011 987 Cayman, I will keep the car around for around 18 months then sell on but want to ensure I get the best price possible!

What options are seen as critical for these cars? Sat Nav? Bigger wheels?

Very new to the porsche arena!

Thanks all

I love Porsche Sports Exhaust. The sound really is lovely...
Are you going for a Cayman or Cayman S?

Very subjective but generally the higher the spec the easier it will be to move on.

At a minimum, I would suggest in no particular order:

19" wheels
full leather
PCM

Climate control in place of standard air con.

Sadly a standard Cayman would like the Sound but think the 2.9 is a pretty sweet engine!

The car is fine standard. However... Climate control is nice in a coupe. Then spend €400 at Carnewal on the exhaust. If you want to have fun stick the big wheels it'll inevitably come with in your shed and fit a set of 17's. Put the bling back on when you sell it.

Chris,

The standard Cayman 2.9 is a lovely screaming engine... Up above 5500rpm the engine really sings. You'll love it, it's a great engine for normal driving and it's actually quite frugal if you don't rag it. If you want big wheels you'd be wise to have PASM active suspension, as the ride on 19's is quite stiff on the standard suspension. My car has 19's on standard suspension and it's OK, but PASM is a better option.

The other thing to consider is if you do a lot of night driving. If you do, you might want to hunt out a car with the Bi-Xenon option - these are twice as bright as the Halogen versions and (as a small bonus) you get a much larger windscreen water reservoir. The lighting pattern is excellent and you really do notice the difference.

Bose is nice, but you'll be listening to the engine...

I'd add full heated leather (even with standard seats) is likely to be preferable to half leather for most people. Sound System Plus is pretty decent to my ears (amp, better speakers?) The Bi-xenons are certainly nice to have and a lot of people like that look too. I also like having the rear parking sensors as a little extra security there are no low objects behind to hit! I'm with Juan in parking the 19s in the garage and running the car on 17s but a lot of people choose 18" wheels as a happy medium.

Agree with the comments about 19" wheels. Probably ok with PASM but I'd avoid otherwise. Full leather is nice as it gives you door cards and the dash top in leather. PCM will always be popular along with upgraded sound - Bose etc. Parking sensors are helpful and sports seats are the closest you'll get to a bargain on a Porsche when ordering new. It also amazed me when I was looking to buy how many cars didnt have heated seats. Everything else I would say probably just makes the car a little easier to sell but probably won't make the majority of buyers walk away.

PDK vs manual is of course the other thing to consider with the former always commanding a premium.

Forgot to add that I originally discounted my car as it only has normal air con but its absolutely fine.

I have PCM, parking sensors and 18's on my Cayman. Not massive spec, but the right extras. Very happy with it. Full leather would have been nice, but not overly important. I agree about the 2.9 engine, however most of the power is at the top end, got to rev it to make it sing and dance!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Now I just need to find the right car, where is the best place to look apart from the official porsche dealers?

With the depreciation into years 3 and 4 what the expected loss be into year 4.

I buy a December 2011 car with 18000miles from main dealer for 30k. What would you predict this to be worth in 12 months time? Roughly!

As someone who made a bit of a study of the Cayman/Boxster market I came to the conclusion that nearly all of the range can be bought for slightly less than half the original price when new at the 4 year point.
It would appear that cars with all of the extras were not a lot dearer they just sold quicker.
If you have the cash and prepared to travel to the end of the country you can pick up a real bargain.
I bought an RS60 privately which came with everything fitted plus PCCB's 20K miles full OPC history 18 months OPC warranty for £26K which 2 years down the line still makes me very happy and the knowledge I got a superb deal just adds to the joy.
Take your time and wait for the right car and be prepared to make a cheeky offer for a private sale
