I know this topic has been chewed over a bit before. But.
I have a Gen 1 Cayman on a 56 plate.
I bought it last year from an Indy and he provided a remote control key, ie one that has 3 buttons: Central locking; boot & bonnet. And a wallet key which is just the metal blade to open the door.
The dash recognises the remote key as 'Key 2' which told me there should be a Key 1.
My question is this. Did the Gen 1 Cayman come with two remote keys?
The Indy has no record of any second remote and fhe trail is cold.
Thanks.

Hi

The Cayman came with 2 remote keys and the wallet key from factory.

You can code up to 4 remotes onto the car.

A new remote and key blade need to be coded to the car using the diagnostic equipment.

A specialist will charge you around £180 to supply and code a key remote.

You should have two remote keys and one plastic valet key/blade.

If you have a metal blade, IMO, it sounds like it could have come from the first key. Given the awful quality of plastic on the Gen1 keys, the first key probably cracked and fell apart (very common). Is it possible that rather than giving you a knackered key or replacing it with a new Gen2 key out of their own pocket, the dealer has just given you the blade from it?

If so, it would have helped if they had the remains of the old key as you would have been able to just buy a new key fob and attempt to transfer the internals to that, so no need for re-coding. Without it though, you will need to order a new key and have it coded. At least it should be a Gen2 key which is of significantly higher quality.
