I'm fortunate to have a pretty open and fast 15 mile country lane journey to work each day and with a realistic budget of around £20k have been thinking of buying a lower mileage 2.7 litre 987 - I just wondered if anyone could offer advice as to whether this is the car to be looking at and if so in what spec? Many thanks

For that money you might get better value from a Boxster.

I had same ££s allowed--for a Cayman. No wish to be a victim of the larger 3.2 engine problems and do not accept that a Warranty makes it all ok--so called "Reputations" for engineering excellence mean Nothing to me--if faced with a £6-7K repair bill.
I found a 17k+ 07 example with 2 year Warranty, looked after and in great condition.A New set of Falken tyres, replaced the cracked walled set.An indy Mobil 3000 oil service and look over was given the ok,s--and
A 2 day Nordschleife visit confirmed, ALL systems OK---

Go for it---IF you have some Warranty----if Not allow for buying one in your purchase price.

I paid less than that for a 20k miles 3.2 S with a turbo conversion. You should be able to get a 2.9 for that money.
