Only another year until a lot of cars are outside warranty and people will be more relaxed about doing a bit of engine work ...

If there is no GT4RS by then ... we'll be building our own smile

Another two years for mine, interesting times ahead. I'll let the early car owners do the R&D work.

I'm not so sure. With the 3rd gear issues people may want to pay for the extended warranty...

Alot will talk about doing x/y/z but only a few will due to resale reasons

3rd gear appears to be an issue only from early 2016, but I agree, a reason for wanting to extend the warranty.

What a great sales proposition smile

My car's already on modified suspension, dampers and brakes ...

The third gear is spot welded to the lay shaft on later cars and there have been some breakages ... but very few ... so far ?

That’s a bit concerning.

I heard a grinding sound when I changed gear at speed last time I took mine for a hoon (few weeks back). It’s been at the back of my mind ever since, because I was sure I had the clutch fully depressed. Can’t remember which gear I was moving to but may well have been third. My car was registered April 2016.

Will keep a close eye on it, but not sure I plan to drive it much until next summer.

The way I have read it is all late build ie from Jan 2016(or later) 6 speed caymans and boxsters as they all share the same gearbox although at the moment it only seems to affect tracked cars hence you only here of it happening on the Gt4! Would be good to know from what chassis number/build date ! I wonder if the same gearbox is used on the 718S?

How many would run a GT4 without a warranty anyway?

me, I don't warranty any thing, having 4 cars it's just cheaper to self warranty.

i agree they should be pretty reliable after 3 years of anything being sorted.

Down to 16 on the locator now... they're being snapped up at these bargain prices! wink

Changing the subject slightly - Bought a white GT4 clubsport few weeks ago & very pleased with it - Previous owner had splashed some cash & came with paint protection film on front end, target blue eye fitted & a GT04 number plate - Happy Days

GT4 newbie - Hence please excuse the dunce questions - Do they come undersealed/Rust prevention need doing/applying etc ? & will this effect the warranty ?

If the answer is yes u should do this - Please can I ask what product do people use ? (Last time I did this to previous car seem to remember I used a clear Hammerite product)

no need, although I do use a product on my ball joints to repel water on my after market items, so did every thing in it.

I would not do any permanent coating. I tend to use Wurth products.

I will probably extend my warranty after the initial period.. but will try to work with local OPC to see if they will be ok with bolts-ons like headers - and suspension components - rear toe-links, as i learn the car and require them.
