+1 on the CSR although the sweet spot out of all my previous Caterham's was the R400D, Prior to my stint owning Porsche's I had 12 years driving Caterham's on road and track and there isn't a lot that comes close for driver enjoyment, There was never an attraction for me to track any of my previous Porsches.
It depends on whether it is a track car or a country lane car ...

For the track the R400d was for me by far the best car was a great balance, for the road I really enjoyed the R500D I never tired of the acceleration, I did like my CRS260 as it was quick and a great cruiser with the extra room but I couldn't get away with the looks of it after owning the S3 chassis.

Well I have another track car and mine is definitely country late where the more composed suspension is by all accounts, a significant advantage ...

I personally never found it that much better for comfort although swmbo liked the extra room , my Caterhams were always set up soft for the track, the CSR I would say generated more Grip, the one time I tracked it at Oulton Park it blew the diff mounts out and shattered the casing ! and on the subject of comfort I have just bought an S1 Honda Elise for a quick road car and the Caterham's in comparison drive like a Rolls Royce yikes

Thanks P smile I always think first impressions count for a lot. First impressions of the CR two years ago were a feeling of driving a special version of a Cayman. A Cayman with an Edge. And I still thought that after two very enjoyable years in mine.

First impressions of driving a GT4 are that I'm driving a junior GT Porsche. It feels so much more grown up. It has a feeling of presence. As a result it makes me just want to keep driving it. Even after half a day with it I'm 100% convinced I'm going to love owning this car.

I was wary of owners saying that used GT4s are a bargain. Do you know what....I have to agree!

Looks great Boxsey, congrats!

I picked mine up last Saturday, had to check in the garage Monday morning to make sure I hadn't woken up from a dream. Such a step up from my 981 Cayman S. It's rained for the past week, but it's meant to be nice tomorrow, so will hopefully get out on to some nice b roads :-)

I used the 981 Cayman S as a daily, I feel the GT4 is far too special for that, so need to get a second car. Thinking a Clio 182 in Racing Blue to sort of match biggrin

I know this is the GT4 thread but I can't decide between GT4 and Spyder and see that the Spyder Glasgow OPC have had for a while has been dropped to £75K, also the slightly dearer GT4 at Newcastle. Are these cars starting to devalue a bit now pre 718 release?

There are a lot less Spyders out there than GT4s so long term the Spyder might be a better bet for resale if used sparingly. On road there is very little between them, on the track the standard Spyder brakes and electronics make the GT4 a much better option. PCCBs on either bring a whole new level of questioning, especially if you intend to do a lot of trackdays. Basically it’s not a black and white solution, but if it was my choice, only road use...Spyder, add some trackdays....GT4

Thats interesting Thanks, car will be road only as I have a Caterham SLR for track.

Sounds like the spyder might now be too bad a choice! Wonder how Spyder/GT4 depreciation will go when the new car comes out....

Million dollar question! If the new GT4/Spyder has a turbo I predict values will appreciate, or at least stay flat. If the new GT4/Spyder is NA I predict values may depreciate slightly, but not by much, both GT4/Spyder are still a hell of a desirable car!

The other million dollar question is whether I have any chance of actually getting a new one! Had my name in with local OPC for about two years against GT4 and/or Spyder. So given my preference is for new - wait it out or buy something second hand sooner?!

I had both : still got the Spyder, sold the GT4.

Agree as others have said - Spyder for the road, GT4 for the track. We are on the GT4 thread though and a lot here will disagree, which is fair enough smile

I have / have had a lot of Porsche’s “modern finest” (GT4, 997.2 RS , 991 GT3 (.1&.2) 991.1RS, etc) and I can honestly say that as a road car, the Spyder can hold its head up high in that company - mines got >10,000 miles on it and the only thing that would make me sell it is a 718 Spyder if NA and manual. Even then looking at the spy shots I’m not sure I’d do this.

Re allocation question - your best bet is to buy either a used GT4 or Spyder and then use this to give back to the OPC in PX for the new one.

Good luck smile
