Had both types of buckets and they are superb. The older, folding ones are wider for shoulders and narrower for the hips than the 918 ones. If you don’t intend to go on track I’m sure the comfort seats would be just fine.

My only must have is the extended leather as I hate a plastic dashboard on a top end motor vomit
My must have was as much extra leather as possible and no idea why but Porsche would only allow this full leather option on the classic folding heated bucketconfused

There are no real ‘must haves’ in my view. There are however options that people on the internet will deem as a ‘must have’ but its all personal opinion. If you want a track based car go full CS with buckets and don’t worry about much else. If you want a more road based car (they are great for road trips) then I can recommend the 18 way seats for comfort and adjustability inc. seat heating. Lots of leather is nice for a comfort spec car. I also think the PCCB’s are fantastic on the GT4. The standard brakes appear to be fine but PCCB’s are worth it in my opinion. Any concerns I had about their wear on track has proved to be a non issue (8k miles across Europe and a few track days has resulted in no notable wear to the brakes, as reported by my OPC at its first service).

In short, buy what you prefer and don’t worry about about what the forum pushers tell you are a ‘must have’.

It depends what you want the car for, for me it was track use, so that meant I had to tick those boxes above everything else:

Cage
Harness
Buckets
Fire Ext.
Sports Chrono, and track app.

Then it was down to personal preference, so colour with black wheels for me

Next on the list I HAD to have the carbon inlay with extended leather dash and colour match stitching.

Then for creature comfort I wanted the DAB, Bluetooth, and aircon

I didn't really want the PCCB because of costs, and to be honest the way I will be driving it, I wouldn't really benefit from them.

Anything else was a bonus.

Having had 2 with the 918 seats - i'd rather have comfort seats!

I bought based on coolness factor of carbon seats - but not good for extensive road use
Agree the above: I had 918s on my last car - which are fab when you press on - but this time I went for the 18-ways. They are lower than the folding buckets, which is a bonus, and once carefully adjusted to the body - they still hold you properly snug. Agree also that the 918s look nicer, but on balance for road use, I'm happier with my choice this time round.

Also I can imagine the 18-ways will be more comfy than the 918's.

I picked my car up (which has the 918's) and had a 94 mile drive back home, and due to my bad back, it had just started to ache.. I wouldn't say I was in pain, but just glad to get out.

This!

The 18 way's are the best option if you want more than one seat position. They can be laid back and lazy one moment and then easily tightened up for a more secure and upright position for more spirited driving or track days. Once the side bolsters are bought in they are great on track. Not as secure feeling as a full bucket with a harness maybe, but plenty good enough.

After sitting in my mates 911 gts with the comfort seats, thats all i would opt for now.

Did a euro trip in my GT4 and the 918s were a bit much for 8 hour driving days. Comfort seats would have changed the whole experience.

But then i'm more of a road driver, don't do trackdays etc

Having all types of seats on various Porsche GTs I find the 918 fixed buckets the most comfortable and the standard sports seats the least comfortable. This is mainly due to insufficient lateral and bolster restraint with the sports seats meaning you backside solely takes your weight and long journeys are literally a pain in the arse!

I think people are beginning to realise that the 18 way seats are the most usable option unless you are only doing track days. Most GT cars get specced with buckets because it suits the images of the car, but the reality is most GT cars are not doing back to back track days as they are so much better as a road car compared to 996 GT3's of old, so 18 ways seem the sensible option for more road based driving. If I changed my GT4 for a GT3 I would only consider cars with 18 way seats, preferably with the additional leather backs as they look nicer compared to the grey plastic shells.

There's a staggering amount of GT4 for sale at present! Some with over 10k miles (which in my book is not a lot) but their proces are too close to the very low mileage ones to make them appealing.

If you mean there are 25 for sale at OPCs.....there was exactly the same number this time last year. Average price has gone down by about £3K compared to then...shocking how they go down in price when they get a year older.

35 for sale on Auto Trader. The problem is independennts are asking near similar money by those at OPC which have the added benefit of the 2yr warranty albeit their derisory px offers. That said a 5 previous owner car from OPC at strong money doesn't sound appealing.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the market now that the new GT4 has been unveiled this afternoon with 425 BHP;

https://presse.porsche.de/prod/presse_pag/PressRes...

I can see a lot of other GT4's coming onto the market over the coming year as people look to get into the next latest and greatest and trade in their current cars to upgrade.

Most people lucky enough to get an allocation for the new car will be happy to take a £5k-£10k hit to get into the new one. I know I would if I were in that position.

I have been watching the market like a hawk over the past 6 months and not a lot has been shifting, other than Fokkers white GT4 in the low 70's (still can't believe the earlier part of the thread about the seat side bolster wear it did make me chuckle).

I have been offered a high spec car 'C4 BPA if you want to search for pics there are loads on Google' for low 70's but am not sure whether to wait to see what happens to the market.

I can't see myself driving it much between now and April, with dark evenings and all of the salt and mud on the road down here in Cornwall, so maybe best to adopt a wait and see approach.

The overall economic outlook is also not looking that great at the moment, hopefully we make some progress on Brexit over the next few weeks and months and things start to look up and stabilise (wishful thinking I know)

You're doing a great job at convincing yourself not to buy one. Keep up the good work. clap

Interesting read and it would suggest the 982 GT4 road versin will have the same 3.8 engine and no turbos. Lot of sense in holding off to see where prices settle given the time of year but dictated on what price they start at I suspect.
