I jest, i know what you mean. it needed subtitles as i could barely hear what Chris was saying during the onboards. Obviously a road car would be significantly quieter but if they make a road car that looks anything like that, the futures just got a little more exciting to me.
Nothing beats the sound of a great internal combustion engine and that will never change for me. But cool to see where manufacturers like Porsche are taking their EV capabilities.

It's all a bit of fun

Can they make roast cars faster ? Maybe unwise.

But I love the look and the technology and the conscience free drivability of this concept car ... the road version could be amazing.

Could a lightweight electrical sports car have a range of 200 miles in normal use and 100 in driving for more fun mode ... and still be a very useable and commercial proposition ?

I think we will obviously see the initial EVs with big weight and a zillion BHP doing bonkers 0 - 60 times etc. But as battery tech improves and they ultimately become lighter, i can see some niche manufacturers making a light weight EV with a tiny light battery and say only 250bhp and decent range.
Theres deffo scope there for EV sports cars to be made fun, not in a traditional sense but an all new experience.

There's an old adage "If you've nothing good to say, say nothing" and I'd suggest it would have been apt in this instance. If you don't like the new owner's changes to the car, fair enough, but your turn of phrase wasn't overly pleasant.

Look, I've no skin in the game, I sold the car some months ago. But the new owner clearly thought the wheel hue wasn't to his liking, and for what it's worth, I concur with his perspective.



So much so I'd planned to refinish the wheels thus :



but doing so would have cost a considerable amount of money, and I was doubtful I'd recoup that expenditure when I sold the car (though they may well have made the car more desirable and appealing to potential purchasers) but as the wheels had only been refinished last March, they were in excellent condition, and having discussed the matter with Tom at 911V, he assured me the wheel colour would not stand in the way of a sale.

And nothing beats the sight of Porsche, BMW, Audi et all engaging in the boiled frog syndrome ...
Automotive manufacturers can instruct their Motorsport departments to engage in this non-sensical virtue signalling as much as they like (and FWiW I'll never pay to spectate live or indeed watch on a Moto E race, a Formula E race or a WRC E rally on TV) because Motorsport and the ICE are inextricably linked (or at least they certainly are for my generation)

Categorically not.

I've nothing against EV's as daily driver/commuter cars, in fact I say bring it on, but as a fun recreational vehicles or a competition cars, they hold zero appeal.
But addressing the elephant in the room with regards to the charging infrastructure, or indeed how we tackle the power generation shortfall, are far more pressing issues that we should be considering, rather than buying into the likes of Porsche producing 600hp 4WD Caymans for the purposes of virtue signalling.

Whilst i agree with every single point made there, this is the way our world is changing whether we like it or not. If automakers are to stay alive, this is the avenue of which they are being forced to go. There's little point developing the ICE if authorities put legislations in place that prevent them being sold to the customer.

Fortunately id like to think that exciting ICE vehicles will be around long enough to see my lifetime out. I'm glad ive lived through the best of it, as I'm sure many others her have too.
However, globally, this is where we are heading and being in the automotive industry, i have little choice but to adopt change, all be it if i personally think that its good progress or not.

If that change is coming, id rather it was in the form of an exciting cool looking 4wd 600bhp Cayman than another ugly overweight plug in SUV or crossover.

Till then, im going to enjoy my NA flat 6 with its manual gearbox as long as they let me.

For the family we have a Kia e-Niro. You can turn the sound off ... which on a quiet narrow country lane in spring sunshine with all the windows open, is rather lovely.

So is an electric Spyder on the cards ?

Driven like a saint the Kia is giving over 5 miles per kWh ....

Just booked my "R" in for the small service at OPC and the cost is £630 inc VAT. Seems to have gone up a lot as last one was only £400 inc Vat which must have been 4 years ago. Seems a lot for an oil and filter change and a stamp in the book, plus a list of jobs they like to add on normally
