Yep it’s the cup 2’s that convinced me that it’s my old car. Awesome thing!
If it'd had leather or not been black, I was close to pulling the trigger...

Really? I didn’t have a choice on the colour. I wanted an R and Reading had the only new car with the right spec in stock at the time. I would have preferred a different colour too but I wanted the car more than the colour and spec was more important to me. That car is a great buy for somebody. Low mileage, well cared for and utterly awesome to drive on those cup 2s.

I would hope so, can't wait to drive one!

But, as I've said before, a £50k Porsche would irk me with a plastic dash. My mate has a C2S with full leather and it's a gorgeous finish to the interior.

My last 2 toys have been black and look brilliant when they've just had a wash and polish, but, they're a tt to keep clean.

The right one will turn up provided my patience holds... thumbup

My second R dont have a leather dash, it was not important over the rest of the cars spec, it’s not that Type of car imo, buy a 997.2 RS for £180k you don’t see many with leather dash.

You will wait for ever if you expect to find one with your perfect spec, most of these manuals are keepers now days or sell very fast. I thought I wanted leather dash in my 2nd one but it really makes no odds and it’s easy to wipe clean.

R feels like a sports car should, a C2S feels like that should, don't get to hung up on it, there are prob only 40 cars in Manual with buckets and Spyders so it’s a very small pool of cars, if your wish list gets too long it may not have even been made. If you want the main 6 items plus leather plus xenons plus PCCB there are about 4 cars in the Uk like that and those people will want over £50k for them.

To pass on the 911v one was a strange thing it’s prob in the top 20 R,s made spec wise.
There is nothing really for sale atm now, the silver ones with PCCB has also just sold.
So what’s left in manual two in black and one of those is high miles.

But, tellingly, the 911V car hung around - I put that down to lack of nav, very nice apart from that (I know it's not the best, but it slows resale, and, not being a multi millionaire, resale is something I need to bear in mind).

The silver ceramic car sold a while ago - stunning car - but at 33k miles, too much for me, like the black one at 39k miles.

J-P's old one at Harbour cars appeared for sale in September, only just sold (you did say that'd hang around).

Something will (hopefully) turn up. scratchchin

Agree about the dash although leather is nice it's not an essential in the R as I see no point in satnav either in the R as most are weekend cars.Tom Tom does the job.
When I wanted an R my wish list was for 6 extra one I found had 5 which ain't bad.
Mines Manual box, Buckets, Spyder wheels, PSE ,Chrono, it does have a couple of other less important extras fitted as well.
But for a driver's car which it is suits the R.
Only my opinion of course everyone has different ideas of what a car should be.

The lack of Nav did concern me (more so than the lack of leather which I fortunately had in both my 997 GTS and the GT4). However after speaking to Tom at 911V who’s Porsche knowledge I respect a lot it became obvious that the perfect R might not exist and if it does it won’t come up for sale!
Nav solution is being sorted prior to collection - OE system (CDR or PCM) is pretty crap anyway so a sympathetically instaled Kenwood / apple car play head unit with DAB, Garmin Nav, Phone etc is my solution and is easily returned to OE if necessary for selling in the future.
In the meantime if a manual car comes up for sale with buckets, Spyders, PSE, short shift, Chrono, Nav, leather, ceramics, Xenons, alacantara pack, 1 owner, 5k miles and in immaculate Guards Red please let me know (and pinch yourself to wake from the dream...LOL)
Roll on delivery of my R.....

My car dont have nav either lol, neither does my Spyder.

I would not worry about 8 year old system, it’s pretty useless and has no effect on resale, it just dates the car year on year.

You will see a trend in the cars selling and the ones not.

It’s a funny market the R as most people would go 981cayman GTS or newer models.
If you really want an R aim for the key driver options and condition.

Low miles is nice ofcourse, but I would not even say 33k miles was high on a 7 year old car as people tend to use them.

if you find one with everything plus sub 10k miles would you want to pay £55k for it
? That is 981GTS money now ! The draw for newer is hard to bypass for most.

I love my Cayman R, it’s the best Porsche per £ you can buy.

That’s stunning, must be 1 of 1 PTS in the UK?

Beautiful! - my former R

Interestingly Tom @ 911V reckoned this was the best R he'd ever sold. And whilst it had the key 6 options, plus several other nice to have items, it didn't have Nav. or leather dash. Despite these 'shortcomings' it sold within the first hour of being in the showroom.

I'm not sure how many Rs have extended leather plus the key 6 options - not many...., I see the attraction of extended leather - but at the end of the day the car is for driving rather than admiring the dashboard. Do you admire the mantelpiece whilst poking the fire? waiting for such a car to come to market will require enormous patience. Life's to short IMO.

911v does sell a load of R and Spyders, must be the biggest seller of them , he tends to say , this is the best on most he sells to be fair lol. It’s a good sales pitch :-).

Would the viper one be for sale at the right price ?

I tried to buy that Viper one once i think it was in Scotland at the time.
Ended up with Peridot in the end because of its spec its still only done 15 k
But lovely to drive after selling my 996 GT3 just a bit gutted how much 996GT3 have gone up in value in last couple years.
Still never mind.

Xenon's would have been my sixth optional extra but it was the one thing mine never had you have to be a little flexible otherwise you won't find an R as already said it probably doesn't exist.
My Viper Green Cayman Sport had xenon's and they are brilliant.
Mine has an Alacantara steering wheel as well.
Enjoy your CR

The Viper R is a Scottish car, originally Supplied by OPC Glasgow - George Mackay retailed it on behalf of the 1st private owner in 2012. Your SY 996.1GT3 is now owned by a friend of mine, but sadly rarely used.

I fitted high power bulbs in mine it helps a tad.
Xenons seem poor in the 987.2 cars over the newer cars, so not as good as people might think if you expect a lot of light like the 35w 981 xenons or new LED systems.
Nice option though even if you keep piling on the lbs with all these options.

I think because the R is more driver focused than a 981 a lot of the comfort options do seem unnecessary 8 years on, back in the day it was nice to have the luxury but it seems less important now, more R are used as weekend cars over daily’s back in 2011.
Be great to build a 1200kg R with some Ohlins. Really hone in on the plus points over the comfort aspect.

My last 996 GT3 was a MK2 in Atlas I sold it to JZ
My S/Y MK1 I traded in for my Cayman S Sport the now owner piled on lots of mileage I believe in the early days of ownership maybe that's a factor why it's been semi retired from use and the fact prices have risen.
But agree with most things said about the CR they are just great drivers cars yes brakes could be a tad better and another 30 bhp would be nice . But it's plenty for today's roads and the power is perfectly usable as it is.

And mine before that . Love it . Really wish I hadn't sold , but I only have storage for one .

Sold for incoming GT4 - then Targa GTS -then 981 Spyder - then Macan Turbo PP - then 987 Spyder and now 991.2 GT3 . Would love the R back at some point in the future . Most of the boxes I wanted to tick have been now (apart from an RS ) , so time to settle down with something for a bit longer .
