The Focus RS is at the dealer getting the head gasket recall done this week, so I've enjoyed using the R as my daily for a change, had a great blast this morning.

Still looking very shiny after its machine polish and Gteqniq detail a couple of weeks back...

I think I remember seeing you when you picked this car up from OPC Reading back in 2011... I was picking up my Black 997 GTS the same day... glad to see you still have it and love it... enjoy in good health.

Yes, I did indeed pick it up from Reading in 2011, and yes, I still love it :-)

Every time I think about chopping it in for something else, I go out for a drive and change my mind...

Most owners cars won't be full oem warranty compliant these days. no one in their right minds would put in a MOLL battery or slap on some 10 year old tyres would they ? My cars stock bar tyres and battery, and it's a rare untracked car with a fresh OPC service, new belts and new MOT ;-)
But if the worst happened, I'd like the warranty backup (especially if buying privately). Would you mind PM'ing your spec and price please?

Depressingly, I've just looked at what tyres are available in N spec (for warranty purposes), the list is small and crap! Maybe a spare set and/or a friendly OPC. I seem to remember Leicester weren't bothered about non N spec tyres - I'm in North Yorkshire so not that far away...

There does seem to be a shortage of CRs for sale recently especially Man boxes
I think I will hang on to mine for at least this year as I have got a few trips booked.
But at present I can see what else to buy around 50k in the Porsche marque that's as good as the R it means adding another 30k and don't really want to do that.
Never bothered with a warranty when it ran out as they don't seem to go wrong well mine never has but it does only have 15k on it and maintained on time regardless of the mileage .
If I was looking I would find it hard finding a nice R that suited my needs and spec mine had 5 of my 6 optional wants so not bad one has to be a little flexible.
I agree with comments on here sat navs are a waste of time outdated .

Would you guys say a 981 GTS is as appealing as a 987 R in terms of desirability and driving enjoyment or is the R a bit more special.

Iam sure a 981 GTS is a fine car i think I would lean towards a PDK for this model.
But for the CR defo Man Box.
Not sure if a 981 GTS is as rare as the CR though .

According to Howmanyleft which looks at Car Tax registrations year on year:

210 Cayman 'R'
519 Cayman 981 GTS
516 Cayman 981 GT4
1218 Cayman 981 'S'

R Manual taxed 101 and 6 SORN
R PDK taxed 109 and 6 SORN

Shame there is no way to provide figures for the rarity of a manual R with the more desirable spec of buckets, PSE, Chrono, Short-shift, Air/con, Spyder wheels.....

How many are we estimating at.....???

no more than 40 imo, too many had turbo wheels or comfort seats. Add in the PSE, SS, SC on top of Wheels and buckets, 40 has to be max.

lol neither is mine Btw, was just trying to give best advice, and saying not many owners will own full oem cars now.

If my 981 Spyder has issues selling I might be forced to sell mine within 3 months , so will let you know if you don't manage to find one.
But I love my car to bits.

I get that, thanks. Easy to see why owners are holding on to theirs. Thoughts on the ad above?

Spec and mileage look good and don’t miss out on this one because of lack of Nav or leather dash as neither are important in an R. Crappy head unit can easily be replaced by a decent unit with Garmin Nav and apple car play etc which is exactly what I did to mine.

Strong money for a private sale but try finding another with similar spec and mileage - they don’t exist!

I see this car selling very quickly based purely on lack of R’s for sale

Strong money yes, but 18 months OPC warranty and very low miles.

I've had an afternoon on the pop so it'll have to wait til tomorrow before I make a call. It's a huge amount of money for me, so not a decision to take lightly...

Looks ok for the miles imo, don’t let private put you off, just means the owners not scared to sell a car, I don’t see the difference between private and trade if the car has warranty.
I would always buy private if possible to meet the owner and ask questions.

People seem hung up on private prices, but this car would be more at a dealer with only 10k on it. Rare spec also with alcantara wheel.

Check for overs revs and buy it imo ;-)

Is it me or do the buttons not add up?

Shouldn't a PSE equipped car have the button on the left and if so, isn't the Sport button meant to be there too?

Looks like one button left, and one on the right... scratchchin

Mine has two buttons, but then I fitted the sport button after build, since I didn't want the chrono dial on the dash - never liked the look of it on my old 911, so avoided with the CR. So I've got separate buttons for the PSE and Sport mode.

But my 997 C2S only had a sport button, which activated the sports exhaust as well as the sport mode - so not sure if the CR did the same thing if you had PSE and Sport Chrono from the factory.
