I wonder if the price has prompted this one to go up in price (pretty sure it wasn't this price before?)

No PSE on the Cartright car. And whilst it's low mileage, in my book they just not worth £50k+ given you'll wipe off the premium when you drive it and you're into GT4 price territory.

Is it just me, or is the Guards Red on recent Caymans not the same rich red I remember from the 80s?

Like most red paints, Guards Red is susceptible to fading given enough time in the sun. Nothing a good polish won't sort though.

I do mine at the start of every spring to keep on top of it.

Also, many cameras struggle with red, make it look washed out and too orange.

I'd expect better of Porsche (wishful thinking?)

Now that's more like it.

These cars have a clear coat on them, meaning they don't oxidise (fade) like the old red's which you used to see on your polishing cloth.

By all means keep polishing it will just make it more shiny...which makes them go faster..!!!

My GR car next to I guess a Carmine Red 911. Looks pretty bright to me - as with most colours light and camera dependant.

As said above, can machine or hand polish it as much as you like, it won't change the colour, all you'll will do is reduce the thickness of the lacquer/clearcoat, as unlike the good old days, Porsche is now two stage, clear over base.

I am very lucky where I live as there's a car paint specialist ( Autopaints ) they will mix touch up sticks to match your car by scanning the colour, I got them to mix me some GR when I bought my Cayman S years ago...its a perfect match.

They told me at the time that the GR paint codes go back to the early 70's and there were if I remember correctly only three of them.
