I believe that the Twingo 133 Cup came in at 980 kilos ... (no aircon, simple bench rear seat ... ??)
DunnoI just asked Google
Still heavier than a Renault 5 GT Turbo at 850. Its an extra 130 kg.
No ABS
No air bags
No AC
No Traction Control
No Cat
No safety cell
No crumple zones
No crash protection
You get the idea
And made of Tin foil
For the Peridot owners, this might be of interest to double up with

I think that might be the car a daeler once DM'd me on Instagram trying to convince me would be the perfect pairing for my Cayman. I was not convinced.
There is a chap in Aberdeen who has a 2025 Cayenne in peridot. Got chatting to him in the gym and he believes it may be the only peridot Cayenne of the current generation. I have to say, if someone said "peridot Cayenne" to me I'd have thought it would look terrible, but it actually oddly works in the metal. And a nice change from the usual black, grey or white that most are. The owner has had some rather nice Porsche including a GT3 Touring but says the best one he's ever owned for the road was his Cayman GTS 4litre...

Colour me less than convinced, don't get me wrong, weight is definitely a large part of it, but so is size. All the cars Chris mentions are small, which in turn makes the roads effectively wider, which means you have more options when it comes cornering lines, and when the roads get narrow, you can still press on, because if you meet a wide car, van, lorry or tractor, you're still in the safe confines of "your side of the road".
I did the hot hatch thing years ago and got it out of my system, so they hold little appeal these days.
Now I'd take an Alpine A110 at 1100kg and 250-300hp. Granted the DCT 'box is sub optimal, but I'd take the mid-engined French car over any 986/987 Cayman or Boxster, as it makes them all look like bloated overweight behemoths.
Totally agree on weight and size - it's why the 987/997 is (IMO) the last generation that feels comfortable on the road.I did the hot hatch thing years ago and got it out of my system, so they hold little appeal these days.

I drove a mate's Alpine A110S back to back with my 987.2 BS on track a couple of weeks ago. You could immediately feel the light weight of the A110, but the 987 was up there for driving fun, better balanced in the wet, and just as fast (although not quite in a straight line).
They're both the same width - around 1800mm.

Richard B reckoned his weighed 1250kg with a lightweight aftermarket lithium battery (but his was a no A/C, no stereo, PCCB equipped example) :

I was surprised that my 981GT4 Clubsport with PCCB type discs and BBS F1R wheels weighed in at 1425 kilos ...
Is that a quoted figure you've seen Chris, or have you had the car on the scales and that was the indicated figure ?ChrisW. said:
That was a reading off the builders merchants scales with 80% full fuel tank and no driver ...
Clubsport from memory Chris ? How much did the cage weigh ?Your wheels would have saved what 5-6kg per corner tops ? and the ST discs wouldn't have been much, if any lighter than the OE PCCBs ?
I secured the red one at Eporsche a couple of weeks ago at it's original list price of £38k and travelled over 3 hours to collect it last Wednesday. I was told it was a 'little minter' but unfortunately when I got there it had paint issues on the rear bumper, corrosion in the rear light clusters, wheels and calipers needed refurbing and the seats have been reupholstered with deeper seat cushions and generally weren't in great condition so I backed out. I It could be a nice example but it doesn't look like they have sorted any of this and have listed for £2k extra.

Shame. Definition of “mint” varies a lot from one person to the next!New R advert on Trader......
