Personally I would not want a 911 or Cayman without PSE, or a different exhaust system if not under OPC Warranty.
Sound makes a massive difference to a sports car & IMO the flat 6 howl with PSE is spot on.
This^^^Sound makes a massive difference to a sports car & IMO the flat 6 howl with PSE is spot on.
As Mr Vert says, sound is a huge part of a cars appeal to me.
Either get one with PSE or get one cheaper without it and fit your own pipes. Personally i'm used to a more aggressive note than PSE so think the OEM PSE is a little muted myself. However that's only because of what i'm used to.
As long as you keep the OEM system to return it to factory should you want to, i certainly wouldn't let it be a deal breaker if you find a car you want
Well the other day was 5 years since I sold this, my Litchfield Type 20 Impreza, before taking the train to Glasgow to get my Cayman R.
Arrived at Porsche Glasgow to this.
5 years and 20k miles later, I still love it. Had quite a few adventures and some interesting "moments" in it!
I had never planned to keep it so long, but I've never found anything that's made me want to sell it that can be bough for sensible money. Can't actually believe I've had it so long. Testemont to the car that I'm not bored of it! The Impreza only lasted 18 months!

I'll stop researching the GT4....I've heard enough!
The R and Spyder seem to be fighting it out regards which can hold their value the best. A Spyder here in Ireland is just a step too far. We get too many 'surprise' wee rain showers here at the base of the Mourne Mountains
Took my mate out for a run in the 987 up the hills today. He's not a car guy but he 'got it'. He had a drive and it's the first time I've been a passenger in my car. It's felt surprisingly floaty in that seat and he was babying it. No wonder my passengers get a bit stressed
Wish they'd sold more R's...
I'm another that has had both. Two years in a Cayman R and nearly the same in the GT4. The R was one of the best cars I've owned. A sheer delight to drive. I think the same of the GT4 but it suits my needs even more because the primary aim of both was away days and track days. The GT4 is much more capable on track. And if anything is more relaxing and compliant on a road trip. Yes it's heavy on fuel but that would only be an issue if it was a daily driver. As I only use it for fun the MPG doesn't concern me. Saying that, on the long cruise to Spa Francorchamps it averaged about 30 mpg which is perfectly acceptable IMO for a holiday run.The R and Spyder seem to be fighting it out regards which can hold their value the best. Yours looks mega in the showroom

Hi, do you have an aftermarket exhaust - which one?As Mr Vert says, sound is a huge part of a cars appeal to me.

Hi,That one seems a really popular one.
From what I can hear from the videos (tricky to judge) it seems to retain that classic flat 6 sound and just makes it louder but with slight extra low end?
Most aftermarkets add too much low end sound IMO but I'll try to hear a few in person.
Andy
Andyoz - You need to get out there and drive one with PSE and one without - and I mean drive it, not pootle around some predetermined town test route. Without experiencing it, you'll not get a sense of what it brings, and no youtube video is going to give you the answer.

I've asked JZM about the exhaust on their white one (thought I read somewhere here it was aftermarket). It's a standard non PSE.
Its not a standard exhaust, It’s a Carnewal conversion on a genuine new CR exhaust (purchased directly from Stuttgart) Edited by Andyoz on Friday 15th November 11:59
I still have the original exhaust that car came out of the factory with.
Most aftermarket items sound gash, Remus included. Carnewal sounds the most ‘Porsche’, simply because it’s a modified Porsche item.

the tubi gives the same sound though ,just daft money for a back box.

as you say most give too low a sound !
Nothing give you the sound of a sports manifold though, them you can keep the PSE and valves in place.

I hear you. It's just in my part of the UK it's hard to find Caymans let alone ones with the bits I want to try.Edited by s3 akr on Thursday 21st November 20:28
I'm getting active in the Porsche Club GB so that might help

Thanks for clearing that up. JZM should have been fit to communicate that to me though...perhaps they didn't want to state they had a (shock horror) modded R.I still have the original exhaust that car came out of the factory with.

I’m not surprised re JZM - I’ve never rated them and their prices are over I think.
Its been bought and sold twice by RPM and now up for a sale a third time since I’ve had it, no idea why but even for this type of car it’s high turnover. The car was straight when I let it go 2 years ago.

I could be wrong but I think thats dirtbikers old car. My car is the closest to the camera and dirtbikers old car is the one pointing in a similar direction. Pretty sure he sold it last summer. It has the insert in the bucket seats painted in peridot which is pretty unusual.
