A Cayman R is an incredible car, easily one of my favourites and I have had a few Porsches.
I preferred it as a tool over my 981 GTS and 981 Spyder.
Interesting you preferred it to a 981 Spyder Joe. I preferred it as a tool over my 981 GTS and 981 Spyder.
A good friend of mine has 981 Spyder and I struggle to think of a more complete sports car package.
Not saying it’s better, just obviously different.
Out of interest, what did you prefer about the R?

The 981 is great fun but the noise is a bit flat - just loud and the clutch is horrible. The engine also feels held back and I think lacked zing. A good friend of mine has 981 Spyder and I struggle to think of a more complete sports car package.

The Cayman R is a beautiful little car, makes a lovely organic noise and the 3.4 is a peach.
Brakes in the 981 are miles better though, dont get me wrong super special car the Spyder but its a 'third' car. The Cayman R is a wonderful thing all the time.

I agree about my CR I have had around 18 Porsches some real nice ones including couple of new ones and a couple of 996 GT3s it's one of the best drivers cars especially on the road.I preferred it as a tool over my 981 GTS and 981 Spyder.
Only weak point the brakes could be better why they never gave it better stoppers I don't know. You do need seat time to get a CR
One of Porsche best kept secrets nothing in the Porsche price bracket can compete, one needs to spend another 30/40 k to get anything as good or slightly better.

Would you say this chaps assessment of the R is accurate?

He seems to not like the ride, the buckets, the suspension, the gears, there isn't much he doesn't like. First review I have ever seen which is not a gushing review of the car.
That guy is a complete throbber. I had to turn off at 3mins and completely disagreed with everything he said. Clearly he 'dislikes' it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivg4yJizRkg

I bought a classic recently and now have a car with horribly uncomfortable seats but awesome gearing. There probably isn't a perfect car out there.

I have to agree with this, being my second R I brought the first one not really knowing what it was... when you really see what the car is capable of you fall in love with it.Only weak point the brakes could be better why they never gave it better stoppers I don't know. the Brakes really are the only thing i can fault, they are fine for road but not great on track, just waiting to get the go ahead and im off to get some bits custom made to fit AP racing calipers and discs, im going to leave the MC as standard to start with as i like the pedal travel for heel/toe.
will update when i have more on what im doing and how much different it feels
Hi
A query I raised on another thread but not heard an answer to. For the extended leather dash option. Aware it provides the leather trim on doors, PCM sides, and the top dashboard...but does that alter the material/finish for the lower dash, or is that always the same plastic finish no matter what?

I liked / loved the buckets in the R but not the gearing. I also found the R passive suspension to be better than the 981 GTS passive version. At least for road use. It was much more comfortable without noticeable compromises.

I find the gearing in a manual 987 ok as you change before red line anyway so works for me, and Folding buckets are perfect for me.I bought a classic recently and now have a car with horribly uncomfortable seats but awesome gearing. There probably isn't a perfect car out there.
Passives are again spot on for fun use, I have PCCB' so the brakes are outstanding.

The part numbers are
98763142803
and
98763142703
which appears to be the 987.2 tail lights, but I thought the R was a special smoked version? Is it not and that the R tail lights are the same as the rest of the 987.2 range?
Best regards
Julian
Pretty sure the R tail light cluster is just a standard gen 2 item.98763142803
