Don't look right to be E88s, i think its the centre caps (that look crap IMO) throwing me off.
If you look closely, you'll see they've done a bit of a mix and match on the centre caps, the "base" of the cap is the fake centrelock boss/over centre clip (that are normally secured with three dome headed hex drive bolts) and the cap itself is something else altogether (not OE BBS I'd suggest)

Yeah they look awful, id just run without caps. Look crap in black too, makes them look like generic BBS reps.
I'd love a set in silver/gold for mine.

Are there any official stats on how many R's made? seems very vague to me, yet surely there must be build numbers on file right?

Thanks for replying. I guess it makes no odds if it is 1450, 1550 2050 etc, its just odd Porsche doesn't give build numbers. Anyhow, thanks for replying!

Just to let you guys know, the first batch of Alcantara bolster protectors arrived this morning and have all been sold already.
If there’s a genuine interest for more, PM me and I’ll add you to the list. When I have a few more names, I’ll put in another order.

They’re £185 including postage via RM special delivery.

Those that prefer the beaded seat covers, I believe there’s an Amazon link above. wink

Hi - Newbie question regarding intelligent battery chargers (I did do a quick search but couldn't find a clear answer).

I have just got a CTEK MXS 5.0 as recommended. My question is around what people find is the best way to connect them. The range of options seem to be:

1. Use the 12v socket in the passenger footwell or centre console (although I've heard that these may not be live all the time)

2. Connect direct to the battery using the clamps - Small hassle with removing the trim each time. One of the questions I have on this method is around where to connect. The method on the box says to connect direct to the + / - on the battery, but the CTEK online video guides say to connect the +positive to the battery, and the - negative to an earth point on the chassis. (I'm keen not to short anything out!)

3. Hard wire the connections direct to the battery, and conceal the connector plug under the bonnet to easily plug in each time (feels like the best long term option) - On this one I am guessing you connect direct to the + / - on the battery. (so same question as above because not all the CTEK guidance is consistent)

Thanks!

This is what I have done, connected directly to the battery with a ctek extension lead, been ok for 6 years!

Yep, I’ve done the same but for only 5 years.

Mines the same. Hardwired in and tucked under the scuttle. Been perfect for years.
I only use the Ctek over winter though when the car gets less use. The rest of the time it never needs topping up.

So sounds like hard wire direct to the + positive and - negative terminals on the battery is the way to go. A job for later.

Thank to all that responded.

The whole charger thing seems like an unnecessary hassle to me. I have a race battery, it would last a few days before going flat, once it went flat a few times it would no longer take a charge and was consigned to the bin. I was pretty good at putting the car on charge but it's inevitable you'll forget every now and then. Plus having the car connected to a charger is a bit of barrier to actually using it, personally if I'm just popping to the shops I'd use the car not plugged into the mains.

There's no need to ever charge your battery if it never goes flat. A remote controlled battery switch is the answer. I've got a Battery Brain on mine. I can leave the battery connected, once the voltage drops to 11.8v it cuts the power to stop further drain. It means I always have enough juice to start it up. You can also disconnect the battery when ever you want via the key fob, I find this very useful. It's the perfect companion to a lightweight battery and I think a lightweight battery is a good idea on a Porsche since they are huge and mounted high up, especially on something like a Cayman R which is supposed to be the lightweight choice.

So every time you remotely disconnect your battery you lose all your radio and Bluetooth presets?

I do because I don't care about them. If I did, there is an option to bypass the cut off to keep the radio connected.

Not that is matters, but I have never lost radio presets/phone pairing/settings etc when the battery has been disconnected - that that really a thing on these?

I always think I should hard wire in my charger but it take 2 seconds to open the door, put it in the cig port and turn it on so I've never been convinced there would be much point in the effort. Especially as I don't take it on and off charge much - on in winter, off in spring pretty much.

Hi guys, Cayman (non R) owner, is there a thread/forum for R sales per chance? Looking at potentially upgrading the 987.2 S to the R...

Been great reading the thread btw!

Hi
Sales chat weaves into this one thread.
And at
https://www.caymanoc.com/forums/topic/2314-cayman-...

And in the For Sale section and General chat threads such as

https://www.caymanoc.com/forums/topic/2592-cayman-...

What spec are you after? Two were listed today both by the same dealer which is quite random.

Thanks! Not 100% fussed as I am aware numbers are low. Manual is the one though as I currently drive one now, if it can already have a short shift kit fitted from the factory (like my 987.2) that would be great, PSE again a good bonus. Sports buckets, again great but I am not a massive track guy so might be a little wasted.

If it can be Peridot green, then I'd lay the cash down now!

Great blog by the way. I can barely use the performance of my 987.2 so I cannot imagine what a GT4 or GT3 are like on the road. Really feel the 987 Cayman is a definite sweet spot for driving engagement in the UK.
