I saw one of these on the road yesterday. A green coloured one with a private plate: POR 987R

As an owner of a 987 S, the R definitely has road presence. The colour pops, but it was going just as fast as everyone else, 10 mph in traffic on the A3.

I think you've posted this one a couple of times previously when it was a private sale and then at auction. I'm quite surprised that it didn't find a new owner then.

Oh yes, well remembered. Looks like its doing the rounds.
Chump change to Joe Macari's customer base so it might sell well through through.

"I'll take the Ferrari 250 GTO"
(but Daaaaad, what about me?!)
"ok, add that Cayman to the invoice"

Apologies for non R content but given there is only 1 hot R for sale right now this seems conspicuous value...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202607194...

It may not be spec perfect but the base pure driving experience is right there ( the brightest of steering, balanced chassis) and mods could be done if you want to retro fit seats, shift and wheels..... its price has dropped a long way.......I thought it would be gone.

Poor spec by comparison to others that have come on the market.
People want the Spyder wheels on a Spyder.
They'd be better to sell the ones on there.... fit these

...then relist it.

Yes having the buckets and spyder wheels is what makes it. All that extra lard will probably make it drive similar to a S.

I'm doubtful.

The difference in front wheel weight between the Spyder wheels and those fitted to the car linked to, is 800g per wheel, the rears 1.6kg each.

The weight difference between carbon folding buckets and Sports seats (spec dependent) is 16kg maximum, total.

Total of non-Spyder/R wheels and seats 21kg.

Meanwhile brimming the fuel tank will increase either car's weight by 40kg ...

Hi all.
For the life of me i dont know why dealers are asking outragous high prices for the current batch of Rs that have recently come onto the market, just trying it on talking prices up, clearly non of them are selling.
Some of the specs are clearly the less expensive ones also im some cases.
I umderstand what some percieve as the holy grail command more.
Clearly a lot of these are low 40s
Some of these higher priced have been on market for a few months maybe sale or returns who knows
One things for sure to high and not selling.
Only my opinion observation of course

Cheers have a good day.

996 and 997 GT3s are all £100k plus cars now, probably just Rs and Spyders just catching up with inflation.

Your £45k budget don’t buy you much these days.

I think we are seeing a feel good summer boom for performance cars. Its not just the Cayman R, cars across the board have increased in price. However, it does seem most prevelant in Porscheland, look at GT prices of late. The few dealers sellers them now are cornering the market and know one is selling as a result.

People haven't just realised these cars are 'the last of a breed'. It's a bubble. Dealers know it and are trying to cash in while they can. On a cold, wet, Monday in January, reality will hit, imo of course.

Yeah, and I don't think Rs and Spyders have really even kept up with inflation. According to the BoE inflation calculator, £45,000 in 2015 is about £65,000 today. How many Rs and Spyders are actually changing hands for fully £65,000 right now? Not many, if any at all.

That said, Rs and Spyders were gradually depreciating in real terms until quite recently, there's definitely been a substantial uptick. I don't think it's a bubble, at least not relative to the rest of the market, which maybe as a whole is rather frothy right now!

In the long run, you can imagine them doing quite well. They definitely have a bit of specialness about them. But the hardware is very little changed from the regular models and there's not much in terms of maintenance and running costs that's particular to the R or Spyder. Brakes, suspension arms, engine maintenance and reliability etc, clutch, it's all standard 987.2 stuff, which will make them easier and cheaper to run over the long haul. It's pretty much just the dampers that are specific in wear and tear terms and they are not exotic / expensive GT car style dampers. Exhaust, I suppose, too.

A GT car is a very different proposition in terms of maintenance and running costs. Stuff like brakes, suspension arms, clutch etc and indeed exhaust are a major, major step up, cost wise on a GT car.

Has anyone with £40-45k burning a hole in their pocket - for this type of car - considered a 718 Cayman T over an R? And please no jokes about people with hearing difficulties, not wanting to start a four pot hate war just curious as the T has a similar ethos and a lot newer.

You suggest "most prevelent in Porscheland".

Have a look at Ferrari, CS, Speciale, Scuderia & GTO, it's almost as if Porsche variants are rising in value at a much lower beta to Ferrari price moves.

All of this appears to be based on a relatively small visible volume of transactions? smile

Those are supercars produced in low numbers though and are generally very special. As lovely as they are I wouldn't put a cayman R or gt4 for that matter in the same category.

You can’t quote production numbers in that argument imho.

Have a look at the Ferrari production run of these cars, in comparison a manual R is a rarity!

Still doesn't tick the very special box imo.
