They will still sell a few boxsters but I can't imagine them shifting any caymans. I'm off to find myself a decent 981 GTS...
Can't fault your thinking...I really kick myself for not ordering a drivers spec Cayman GTS the chances of finding a used example will be next to impossible.

Why will caymans not sell?

Because the whole point of a Cayman is its a driver's car and the new engine makes it less engaging to drive.

Aren't all Porsches meant to be drivers cars? I dont think the typical new buyer thinks like that.

Its like-

2 years ago:
"Hi Here's a dozen eggs, that's £2.80

And now:
"Hi! We have revised what a dozen is, its now 8. - That's £3 please"

Depending how you define "drivers spec" they really will be hard to find used. Under 100 manuals in the UK for a start, then if you're pickier than that it's a needle in a haystack. A lot will be more 'GT' than 'S' as that's how it should be in my opinion.

Best value for money 981 for a road or track 'drivers' car is an S with X73 and buckets (and minimal other options) I reckon. Cheaper than a GTS too.

I think best value for money was the GT4

It makes me wonder with the 718s being as quick as a gt4/spyder did porsche marketing allow these specials to make the 718 look good knowing the 718 engine would be slated?
I can just see the press in near future " 718s in Pdk is as fast as the outgoing gt4 with a sublime chassis to match yet able to return a 35 mpg average"

Only if you had £65k and money for running costs and repairs. For a lot of people that's far too much to spend on a second car.

Most like my gt4 cost very little new over a well specd new gts!
Running costs of a gt4 will not be massively greater than a gts

Agreed, but to spend £65k on a second car is the point I was making. That's out of reach of your average Joe.

At half(?) the price, a nice specced S is a better option.

I consider myself an an average joe my gt4 is a second car and I would never have considered a 981 of any description until the gt4 came along!
Imo if I wanted a 's' I would buy the better 987. 2 cs over a 981cs

This, the GT4 rides smoother than my R and I guess better than a GTS with x73.
running cost the same, resale well GT4 wins no conest.

this again :-) , I own a 987.2 R and a GT4, not a fan of the 981 at all, it's just a nice car nothing more. Think I would rather a 718 over a run of the mill 981.

In the here and now I don't think any comparison of GTS and GT4 prices are valid. The GT4 is now considerably more expensive than a GTS.

I just sold a two year old Cayman S and went into a high spec GT4. It's cost me in the short term but I think I'll be better off in the medium - long term in a GT4 cost wise.

That's if you was allowed to buy a GT4, if not you'll be expected to pay 20/30K over odds for that opportunity.

If I was given the option to buy a GT4 at the time of when my GTS was ordered, I would have gone with GT4. However, didn't get that opportunity so I choose to spec my GTS how I like it and yes it cost more than most GT4's.

I can assure you I am an average joe if you knew what I did for a living and what I earn you would ask yourself how could he afford a new fiesta let alone a new Porsche! And no I am not in debt up to the eyeballs!
A lot of average joes buy nice new cars but then a lot of average joes spunk their earnings up the wall or in today's society up their nosesbiggrin

The average Joe cannot afford a new £65k Porsche, especially without finance. However much you protest you're not an average guy off the street with a mortgage and a family to support...
