So since my original post, I've been to my nearest OPC and had a chat about what I needed doing, and you were all pretty much spot on.
  • Major service - £615
  • Brake fluid change - £95
  • Something called 'Additional Maintenance Every 80k / 4 years' - £72.24
  • Spark plugs - £263.35
Bringing the total to £1045.59!

I fished around for various savings, but didn't get far. Nothing on offer for PCGB membership as everything is 'fixed price'. Apparently one of those things involves inspection of a belt and they'll only replace it if it looks like it needs doing, so there might be a bit saved there if it happens to be ok looking. Also I can supply my own Mobil 1 0w40 to save £144.00, as someone had mentioned above.

Bit annoyed, but also keen to keep everything in good shape, so will begrudgingly be going for it all. It's just irritating that I was ready for the cost of the four year service, and they then add all this separate stuff on top of it.

What mileage has your car done? I'd be reluctant to splash £260 on a spark plug change unless you're either at the upper end of the mileage range or your car grinds along for ages in city traffic every day of the week. Modern spark plugs last for ages - which is why the darned things are so expensive in the first place!

I'd look carefully at what's done for that other £72 as well.

I'm sure you're right about spark plugs - but it's not an option if you want to keep a Porsche warranty - 60k miles but no later than 4 years in the service book. I suppose there just might be a genuine concern that the spark plugs might be sods to remove after (say) 10 years in a low mileage car. If that is the issue they could require a spark plug inspection at 4 years - but somehow I can't see Porsche taking that route.

The car's on about 27k miles, and was first registered in September 2013. The first owner did 20k miles in under the first two years of ownership, which was May 2015, which caused an early first service.

So the list of stuff above is an amalgamation of things due at four years old (September), and stuff due two years since the last service (May). It just seems easier, if pricier, to get it all done in one hit. So I could delay the rather expensive spark plugs a few more months, however as above, for reasons of warranty I'd want to have them done, (even though I'm sure they'd go on much longer).

You spoke to another OPC in the area? Seems they have different prices. Some will replace the drive belt rather than just check it.

Also the PCGB discount is on parts. So you should be getting it on spark plugs even if it does not include the main service

Further to earlier message it did not include the spark plugs. But at £607, for the major service, brake fluid change and MOT it defo seems a lot cheaper than most peoples. The car has only done 12,600 miles

Got my 2 year service coming up in June, and will be taking my own oil, however does anyone know what brake fluid is used? Not sure how much is labour vs fluid in that.

Good point, I hadn't thought about that. I'll be sure to ask when booking, cheers.

Drive belt check is included in the Major Service price, check Porsche online fixed price service documentation. I just had the discussion with the OPC about that and they did it as part of the service. I got the plugs for £180 and I got 10% of the whole service (parts & labour, brake fluid change and tyre sealant) and I'm not a PCGB member. About £820 all in I think the final bill was

Wow, how did you manage that? I got told they couldn't discount anything as it was all fixed price stuff. No discount on anything for the same reason. I had mine done yesterday in the end, and begrudgingly paid what they request... frown

Recently my 987 went in for its annual MOT and four year Major Service I also had the warranty renewed for two years, I was less than impressed they wouldn't waive the cost of the 111 point check total cost just under £2600.

Has anyone ever seen the 111 point check list as I'am curious to see what is checked out with the MOT and major service...can't be very much I imagine.

That's sharp practice by your dealer. I was told by my servicing OPC that 50% of the 111 point check are carried out as part of the major service, so you have been charged twice for that work. Find another dealer for your service work!

Discussed over email, I asked what they could do if I had it all done together. Then pointed them to an indy price for plug change and they dropped the price without a battle. Surprised me too.....

Do the OPC's give you the tyre sealant replacement bottle included as part of the Major Service price?

If not, any idea how much the OPC charge for this. Expires after ~4yrs

What's clean discs front & rear & what are the benefits?

Something to do with rust I imagine?

This cleaning of disks seems to be coming a trend. My 987 Spyder was in OPC for a service in March and they wanted to charge me £174 to clean brake dust from ventilation holes. A nu,ber of people on here have had the same issue raised by OPC,s Did it myself with the help of an old drill bit in less than an hour.. I had never come across this issue in over 30 years of driving Porsches. Could it be OPC's have found a potential new revenue source ?
