Anyone else regretting that they got or didn't get anything for their new 718? I love everything about mine, but there are a couple of things I might have changed with hindsight, one of which I wish I could have had, but was not readily available.

Sports Chrono. I have no interest in a stop watch on the dashboard, but I like the blipper (rev matching), and I especially like having the sports setting on the PSM rather than just on or off. Should I have got it? Not sure I like it as much as £1271, but I'm wondering what I'll do if I go through the same exercise in a few years' time.

Standard plastic and Alcantara interior. Love the seats, perfect for me, and I am fine with manual adjustment. But what I didn't think about was the new car smell. Just not the same without leather in the mix. I wish they did leather bolsters with Alcantara centres, if only for that reason. Another one to think about in case there's a next time - glad I got the carbon dash inserts though.

Although I have chosen a slightly unusual spec, I'm really happy with everything else so far, particularly manual box and 18" wheels. Who else thinks they might have a bit of "spec remorse" going on?

PASM.

Love the 10mm drop in ride height but rarely switch it on.

Neil,

I got PASM and PTV, and I'm really glad I got both. Still getting used to PTV, and because the engine isn't run in yet I still don't really know what the mech LSD is capable of on the way out of corners. On the way in it really tucks the nose in, with minimal steering input, and in a very reassuring way. Never tried it at PEC Silverstone, might have to ask if I can go back with my new car and have a play.

Like you I haven't experimented with PASM in sport mode much yet, but the lower ride height just looks better. With most cars I've tried, sports suspension settings tend to be a bumpier ride for going not much more quickly, if at all, but from PEC experiences I think Porsche have achieved something a bit better.

On the 981 PASM (on 19" wheels) Sport mode can be used most of the time and the ride remains good. Only on badly broken surfaces do I feel the need to switch it off. The 718 is, noticeably stiffer with the standard suspension than the 981 - but I'd give PASM Sport it a whirl on some half decent roads. The only "complaint" I have with PASM in normal mode is that it can't read the road ahead (or my mind) and after a period of cruising the car becomes just a tad "floaty" for a second or two when you start to do something "sporty" - after that it tightens up automatically.

That's interesting Liam, PTV is the one sports option I've left off my build at the moment! When I did my day at PEC I drove a PDK and a Manual car and never asked about PTV whilst I was there. The next day I started to worry that the PDK car must've had PTV because it felt more focused on track but when I phoned Silverstone to enquire they told me it didn't but the manual I drove did hehe

I reckon the difference I felt at PEC was probably down to tyre wear and I'm simply not a good enough driver to notice PTV! I had it on my GTS but I didn't feel I noticed it on that either lol

I'm very pleased with my spec. I took delivery on 1st July last year and avoid motorways if I can. The only thing I've not used is cruise control.

Do no regret choosing Miami Blue because thats the colour i wanted but didnt realise it would draw so much attention smile I have only covered about 400 miles since picking it up and I have had people taking photos/videos with there phones on a good few occasions even driving in to my home town there was a 4 or 5 school teachers taking a group of infants along the road with there little hi-viz vests on a couple of the teachers started pointing at the car and all the little kids started waving at me !! That was slightly embarrassing driving lol

Slightly off topic as not 718 but blue cars seem to make kids go crazy. I was at a light in my Voodoo Blue Spyder and a formerly orderly crocodile of 6-year olds started pointing and jumping and going mental.

Obviously I revved the engine to make them do it more. It was great!

I assume you know PASM is always on. So you don't put it in 'sport' mode (I assume you mean), but you are using the adaptive element in comfort mode all the time and it tightens up automatically if you press on.

I agree completly and this is why Jimmy Saville had a blue Sierra back in the day smile.

That's rather misleading. Yes PASM is always "on", the ride height is always 10mm lower, but it does have two modes - Sport and Normal. In Normal, depending on the road surface and driver behaviour damping can (on the 981) vary from much softer than the standard (non-PASM) damper settings to a bit stiffer than normal. In Sport it varies from a tad softer than the normal (non-PASM) settings to much stiffer. PASM cars have springs and anti roll bars that are about 10% stiffer than standard.

Not sure about 718s but I'd expect them to broadly similar - if perhaps a bit stiffer all round.

About to finalise spec for 718 Cayman this week. Still in two minds about standard seats with leather package or leather sports seats. Any views?

As far as I understand, if you go for standard seats with leather package, they change the seat centres to leather, but the side bolsters are still vinyl. Alcantara and leatherette appealed more to me than leather and leatherette. If you want full leather seats, then it appeared to me you had to have sports seats plus, and I actually find the standard seats a little more comfortable across the shoulders.

It also occurred to me that the electric seats must be carrying a fair weight in additional motors, and because I tend to be the only person that drives my car, the motors would essentially be dead weight.

Not sure if any of that counts as advice, but some thoughts anyway!

I have the red leather seat inserts, if I was speccing again. I would go alcantara, I went for leather as a change from my last Cayman but prefer the alcantara

Not much spec remorse here.

Still not sure about the Sport-tex seats, still feels a bit like a cheap material found in 1990s Jap cars, but I have to weigh that up with the contrasting stitching in the rest of the car, which I love.

Otherwise, I'd have gone for the chrome window surrounds - I didn't know the option was there when I specced up! - but that's pretty minor.

Think they look great.

Otherwise, happy with the rest of the spec. PASM, PSE, LEDs, Sport Chrono, Turbo S Wheels, Sapphire, Bose, Nav & Connect +

Have you got any pics of your interior Tim? I've ordered Black Sport-tex without having seen it in the flesh, found the Graphite Blue/Crayon ones I sat in at PEC super comfy.

No decent pics Si, will snap a couple for you when I get the chance.

Mine is the black sport-tex by the way.

Having seen the standard Cayman S wheels in the flesh the other day (look extremely good compared to the configurator attempt), and today on the Mahogany shown in the pics thread (paint colour is definitely not for me) but those wheels I may well have specced then got them painted Satin Black by OPC. That would enable me to throw the £1.7K I splashed on the Carrera S 20's into full leather instead.

I love the alcantara so its no biggie for my ownershp but agree entirely with Liam's comment on smell in the first few weeks - the dash material is v high quality but next time I will find a way to go full leather. I can't really see the value with the partial route, it would be all or nothing.
