Yeah I queried the PASM with the sales guy as I'd read good things, but he kinda palmed it off and said it wasn't all that. If buying new I think I'd ad the be tempted to add the PASM. Especially if I go Coast 2 Coast and get some kind of discount as that would cover the PASM.

I found the ride without PASM was poor to be honest and I couldn't use one as a DD if it didn't have it. Of course you may not mind it but i'd try both over an extended run before choosing.

It does sound like if the GTS is to be announced in September and you like the styling and don't mind the wait then it may be the best option for you

I think the only reason he'll have said the PASM wasn't all that is because the showroom demo car he had for sale didn't have it (and the silverstone demo car eslewhere that I was comparing it to did).

In terms of the GTS, what's not to like? What I mean is, sounds like the GTS has a lot of pro's - but what are the downsides to it? I'd imagine price will be one of them?

When I googled 718 GTS, the photo (below) makes it look like it sits really low...
(the kinda low that doesn't get over speedbumps)

Interesting to hear you've gone 981GTS to 718.
How do you find the comparison?
Hard to do a fair comparison as I sold my GTS in August last year and my 718 arrives next month! I've done my PEC in a 718S and was surprised at how quick it felt, the handling was amazing too. But without doing a back to back test it's impossible to say how it stacks up. I can say I quite enjoyed the soundtrack of the 718, not as good as the 981 but having been driving F6's for 10 years it's nice to have a change. Whether the gruffness of the F4 wears thin after a while time will tell I guess!

Mainly I just can't wait to be back in a Porsche after swapping the GTS for an M3, that was an attempt at growing up a bit and going practical due to the arrival of our first child ... big mistake biggrin

I think it looks great except for the front which is not to my taste but I appreciate most will likely disagree

The car is compressing at speed through a turn in that photo, see below, I doubt a GTS will sit any lower than a 718S equipped with Sport PASM. Speed bumps won't be an issue.

PASM is poorer on the 718 in either mode than it is on the 981. A Porsche factory technician who accompanied the 718S I tested explained that this is due to the underlying suspension having been firmed up between the two models.

I noticed the difference before he said anything and asked the question, answered as above.

I think you'll find a wide range of views on whether a 981GTS scrapes on speed bumps and the like, depending on where people drive. Personally I think the ordinary 981 with PASM (not sport PASM) is as low as I want to go. Mine scrapes occasionally and the front apron has become detatched on a couple of occasions. The nose of a 981 GTS (and probably a 718GTS) is more vulnerable than the standard car. I'd avoid having the apron painted because when (probably not if) it scrapes you'll be as upset as a couple of GTS owners who have posted here.

Oh dear.... I'm sure the M3 is a lovely car but GTS to M3............
Glad to hear you're getting back in to a proper 2 seat sports car.. happy days.

To cart my crew about I run an A6 Avant, which just makes driving the Boxsters that much more special :-)

I'm going to wait until September and see what the GTS looks like, if it's not for me I'll then go back to plan B and place an order for an S.

Not sure how build slots will look come September, I've never bought new before - but a March reg (new 18 plate) would suit me fine smile

Tim if I was you I would be putting my name down for a GTS now.
If previous GTS is anything to go by, it's going to be a great car and a good step up from an S.
Plus the extra benefit of holding its value far better !!
Just check out the GTS threads on here.... they are nearly as fanatical about their cars as us Spyder boys !
It's not going to be a limited edition I sure, but will still be hard to come by, so book it Dano :-)

I've rang the dealers, they said to pop down and pay a deposit to secure my slot

I don't think that's bad advice. When you see what the spec and price of the car is you can judge whether it best meets your needs and budget. I was in a similar position - but decided on an S because I DIDN'T want 20" wheels, ground clearance issues, or the exhaust and thought Sport Chrono irrelevant. So an S was a better choice for me - but it may not be for you.

As has been said 981 GTS residuals are undoubtedly better than a similarly equipped S - because it was available in limited numbers and the last of the 981s. I doubt a (NA) 718GTS will attract the same premiums.

Interesting but no OPC is officially allowed to take a deposit until the cars official announcement.

Tim718 - looking at the spec you want, which includes Sport Chrono and the Sports Exhaust, you may be wise to hang on until the 718 GTS has been announced. I think in the longer term it'll be a better buy and probably not that much more expensive than the S spec you're considering....
Where do think the base price will sit?

No and probably won't be the last!

A deposit taken before official announcement is meaningless.

Probably around 6k higher than the S but as others have said you'll get a power boost and PSE, PASM, Sports Chrono and design bits as standard so it'll kind of even out as long as those were boxes you were going to tick.

My 718 CS has come in at 70K, it would've made sense for me to go GTS but I've already been waiting since February, I can't wait any longer biggrin

The ones I've been looking at have been £67k-£70k, ideally I'd not want to go over £70k if possible. But yeah looking at the list most of the things standard on GTS were on my pick list already (even down to the smoked lights).

The 911 I test drove had the Alcantara steering wheel with full leather seats which I thought I was nice, but not 100% sure I'd want Alcantara seats (after watching a YouTube video about it - https://youtu.be/aebUNgMhQV4 )

Think they just want some kind of commitment from me to show I'm serious?

Alcantara seats are no problem and I actually prefer them to leather from an aesthetics and comfort pov. Steering wheels on the other hand are a bit of a ballache to keep clean, I vowed after my Spyder to never have another one!
