Took my 981 Boxster S in for it's 4 year service and warranty renewal yesterday and for the first time ever, I didn't have a sudden urge to want to "upgrade" to the loan car I was given. Whilst the service and warranty were far from cheap (as has been covered on here many times) it has in fact saved me a fortune cos I'll probably keep what I've got for at least that warranty period and maybe longer.

I was given a 718 Cayman S for the day while my car was in. Having started my Porsche journey in a 987.1 CS, I've had a 987.2 Boxster S and then my current 981 Boxster S. I've always thought I'd have another flavour of Cayman one day in my usual pattern of trading into a lightly used later model.
I've read a lot about the engine factor and always wondered how it can be that bad - but now I understand. It was a rattly, droning, rough motor with absolutely no character. Granted it was very capable and I could feel the extra urge, but what a price to pay.

At the end of the day I was more than happy getting back into my car and for the first time ever didn't miss the loan car at all which has saved me a fortune! If only I could stretch to one of the 2 GT4s in the showroom.......

Anyone out there like the 718?

Like all cars there are fans out there but not me - my experience was the same as yours. Horses for courses and all that though!

I took my CGTS out for a brief drive at lunchtime just to wind the flat six up to the redline and chuck it round a few corners. I'll never get bored by the noise it makes or the feel when it's on song...

My OPC didn't even bother to try and persuade me a few months ago.

Took my 981C in and they gave me a Merc C220d!

Now that IS a horrible thing!

Oh no not another I HATE THE 718 thread!! This is getting boring ! Everyone has their own opinion, likes, dislikes. If you want a new sub 911 Porsche then there is no alternative. In a few years there will only be hybrid/electric and the everyone will be moaning about the demise of the 718 !

Very wise. I sold my 981 and regret selling it. I have a McLaren now which I love. But I wish I kept the Porsche so that I could drive both.

I felt the same when the 981 was launched I wouldn't part with my 987 for one, multiply that by a good factor for the 718.

I see / hear a lot of these driving around where I live, the other day I thought I heard one in the underground Waitrose, when I looked round it was a Fiat 124. I know the Pork is a great chassis but the sound is pretty nasty

we all have opinions, that's what forums are about, and why there is such anger lol but the 718 is not a nice thing really for a lot of people at the £70k mark.

So the quote "if you want a new sub 911 Porsche" fails as most here don't want a new sub 911, I would switch brands a Golf is 1/2 the price and a better car for normal use and has the 4 pot people now lust after lol, I had to goto a Golf from my Ford as they are now 3 pots lol.

I am sure people are saying the same as we are about the 4 pot as people are about the 3 pot in the ford forum lol

A 3 pot daily and a 4 pot weekend car, bad times !!!!! not for me.

Or split the difference and have a 5 cylinder Audi RS3.- which would probably be my choice.

Very good point and I said sth along thoese lines to somebody yesterday talking about Ferraris - why buy one and then only drive it on sunny weekends and a crappy diesel for 90 percent of your driving - makes much more sense imo to drive the pleasant car daily
