Just getting Michelin Pilot 4 S installed on my Boxster 981 after Pirelli N0s !!!

Cannot wait to drive off!

All N0 approved and also load rating not an issue... see emails below...

Regarding your query for the Porsche N0 specification for the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 S in tyre size 265/35 R20 Y 99 and 235/35 R20 Y 92

I can confirm that the MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 S comes with the Porsche N0 marking in both tyre sizes.

MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4 S
https://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-pilot-sp...

Listed below are the article numbers for this specific tyre.

265/35 R20 99 Y : 459004
235/35 R20 Y 92 : 393060

In addition, on this link you can find the nearest Michelin dealers in your area:
https://dealers.michelin.co.uk/

You can contact any one of them for availability and price.

I hope this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you have any further questions or concerns, we will be more than happy to help.

MICHELIN is happy to accompany you on every journey and would like to thank you for your confidence.

It is correct that the load index of 99 = 775kg is higher than the 95 = 690kg. Therefore it should not be a problem mounting the 99.

The general rule is as follows: For summer tyres you can use the same Speed/load Index or higher - For winter tyres the opposite applies. The same or lower speed index only.

But to be 100% certain please get in touch with Porsche, for their requirement.

it's a joke as Porsche will not have tested or passed that tyre for the 981.

You can fit a tyre from a front CGT to a rear Cayman and OPC's are happy lol the whole thing is laughable really.

better off running non N spec on any older car imo.

Porsche's own N-rated tyre list is dated 1/2017!!! Not sure if Michelin would really start a fight with Porsche on this issue by prematurely N-marking the tyres with no understanding that it would not get approval in the near future. Or .. perhaps Porsche has decided not to stock Pilot 4 S while they have their own stock (of Pirellis and Goodyears) to get rid of..

Of course.. you could be right! I'll have a chat with Porsche when I see them next week. If nothing I'll just cancel my warranty starting 1.6. as it has not yet kicked in!

On the other hand Michelins have less noise, no whaling at 50-60 mph like with Pirelli N0 ... and pretty damn good grip!

Are you sure about the "less noise" bit...An area which the Michelins are regarded as weak generally.

I've just gone from Pzero's to MPS4S and I think they are slightly quieter on my commute along the M1.

I’ve had MPS4s in for about 1,000 miles. Crabbing is a lot less when manoeuvring and tyre noise is definitely better. No noise on motorways now.

Dry grip appears no different. Not been out in the rain yet.

Passed my 111 point check with them on.

They are good but not night and day different to the Pirellis.

The whaling of the first note of “The Imperial March” is gone! ( not saying this because of today’s date!) I mean a real note could be heard..

Now with Pilots there is a different, quieter, a bit raspy sound but no note!

Goodyear assymmetric 2 could be the most quiet but it is fairly old tyre. 3 is on the market but no N-rating.

So, what model takes the 99Y rears? The 981 is 95Y as you know. Is it the 718?
Jamie McWhir at Michelin told me two years ago the 20" PS4 was being developed for the 718 launch.
I now know this to be piffle. Never seen a 718 with Michelin from the factory.

Not being 95Y would put me off the PS4S on my 981.

My Goodyear AS2 have been excellent but I'd like to try the PS4S next IF they met the correct spec for my car. Bizarre, unless the 718 is 99Y and they see this as the bigger market?

no idea what the standard delivery tyre is but i remember seeing this when the GTS was launched:

if it doesn't automatically start at the right point go to 34secs.

PS4S is XL tyre (sides enforced) and thus can carry more weight ... so that is OK as the tyre exceeds the Porsche requirement. See Michelin email below. Also, note that n4aat got his/her 981 with Pilots pass the 111 check by Porsche Centre.

Sorry for the thread revival but I’m currently looking at replacement tyres for my 981 Cayman 2.7. I currently have 20” wheels with Pirelli P-Zero N1’s fitted - they were on the car when I bought it.

I’ve had a few sports/performance cars over the years and always ditched the Pirellis ASAP, usually for PS4 or PS4S, and I’ve noticed a real difference in ride quality, noise, wet grip etc.

My Cayman does not have PASM and I do find the ride pretty firm on poor quality road surfaces on the Pirelli’s.

I was about to pull the trigger on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1’s (the N-rated ones, AS2) as they aren’t XL rated and thus have a more compliant sidewall than the PS4S. However I do also recognise that they will ultimately have a bit less grip and inferior turn in. The AS2’s are a few years old now of course but I’ve seen a number of Caymans with them fitted when I was looking for mine.

Can anyone comment on the Eagle F1 handling/feel compared to PS4S? I’m familiar with the latter but not on a Cayman (actually an Evora).

Thanks in advance…..

I binned the Pirelli N1s my car came with as soon as possible and switched to F1s, it was a revelation. In the cold and wet they are vastly improved, they are also a little quieter.

I don't have PASM but don't remember much difference in the ride quality.

Can't comment on Michelins as they don't come in my wheel size (18"s) but general feedback on here seems to be good (bar the odd one or two who just seem to want to argue for the sake of it.)

My 2020 Cayman GTS 4.0 came on Pirellis. I've done 6k miles on them, and have decided that whilst they are fine in the warm, they just don't have the performance when the temperature drops, or the roads are wet. I've noticed if I really work them, they'll come into some sort of temperature window, but they are horrible when cold.

PS4S have been put on the car today; I'll be collecting later! Every car I've had PS4S on has been improved by them. My ML63 has them on as well, and the grip is ridiculous for something so massive.
