I would also say have a close look at every option that's available and consider if you need it / want it. A good example of this is the dual zone climate control. Without that option you get basic manual air conditioning. Just food for thought. It is a better equipped car than the previous models were for stuff that you would expect to be standard but just check before you lock so that when you get in on day one you don't go..... oh

Just got back from my PEC experience... WOW! I'm shocked at how capable the Cayman was, I had a grin on my face from the minute I sat in there. I had a good look at all seat options and will be going with the buckets as they look fantastic and we're comfortable as heck too.. the standard seats were good but not to keen on the finish of the artificial leather, it looks a little bit cheap.
Roll on January!

I went last week and was in a Grey Cayman S, fully loaded and it was so much fun. I went with my friend who got a code for a boxster and he request to change to a 911 S so we swapped during the last 15 mins. I came out as a much better driver and when the instructor who took me out for a few laps on the 911S , i needed new pants!

Totally agree, having thought I'd gone round fairly well (chasing middle aged women in macan's) I asked for the instructor to show me how it's done, I don't think I've had as much fun as a passenger!

Great stuff smile

I've driven a 2.0 718 with standard seats (an OPC demonstrator). The standard seats are absolutely fine. It's also plenty quick enough, no need for the S, IMHO, the 2.0 is a great car.

A few other thoughts (since you didn't ask, but this is PH...)

I'd humbly submit that the best value new Porsche is the entry level Cayman with no options... smile Helluva lot of car for the money.

I always look for upgraded lights and PSE is fun, especially in the turbo era, perhaps close to essential now.

I personally think they handle better on fixed rate dampers with smaller wheels. If you must have the 20s then yes, get PASM. They come as standard on 18s for a reason... - and it's not just so they can charge you a couple of grand to upgrade them smile

Like everything Porsche you can spend a fortune on options, yes they (usually) make the car better, but also make your wallet considerably lighter...

FWIW, I don't think these black boxes you mention are so bad if you drive sensibly. Keep to the limit in built-up areas. NSLs and motorways are OK. I had one on a previous car - used it to track my journeys for my business expenses rather than for insurance - and it's quite easy to get a good score.

I've no idea about your driving history or how you are lucky enough to afford a new Porsche at 21 - kudos whatever smile - so forgive me, but I have to say, do be careful, it's a step-up from a Golf (even an R) and make sure you take your time getting used to the character of a RWD mid-engined car. Maybe even spend some of the money you might save on upgrades for the car on upgrading your driving skills too (here ends patronising lecture).

Have fun smile

Totally agree on options advice. Not so sure on insurance advice smile

Congratulations, pleased you've found the right seat choice for you. If I was you I'd now really think about your chosen specification before your order becomes "frozen", which will be pretty soon for January delivery.Thinking about your previous car, a Golf R, did you want any of the equipment that you got standard in that car which you don't get with a Cayman? Multi function steering wheel? Automatic climate control? Rear wiper? Folding door mirrors? Cruise control? Rain sensing wipers?

Thanks, I went and saw my opc this morning whilst it was fresh on my mind. I’ve put in a spec which I won’t change now as I could do play on the spec endlessly. My ‘soft lockdown’ spec is as follows:

718 cayman
Manual
Gt silver
Carrera s wheels satin black
Model designation in black
Bi xenons with pdls
Park assist front and rear
PASM
PSE in black
Gt sport steering wheel
Sports buckets with gt silver passages
2 zone climate
Smoking package
Passenger storage net (its free!!)
Sports look pedals and footrest
Interior package painted gt silver
Silver grey seatbelts.

I thought about the wipers, door mirrors etc that are standard on the Golf but realistically I don’t think i’ll Miss them. I don’t think I’ve ever touched the cruise control!

Just out of curiosity does the standard car with connect + support wireless phone charging?

As I said earlier, it's pedals only. No RHD footrest is available so you'll get a mis-match.

Is this true for the non aluminium sports pedals also, on the config under interior aluminium it doesn’t mention the footrest but on the other pedal option it does? Slightly confused

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't know there were two options on the base 718.

The "sports look" at £126 under "interior" includes the pedals AND the footrest. These were standard on the 981 CGTS so the footrest definitely exists and matches the pedals. These are standard on the 718 S.

The "pedals in aluminium" at £185 in the "interior aluminium" section are pedals only. No matching footrest.

Thank you, it does seem odd that they don’t make a RHD footrest in aluminium, i guess there isn’t enough demand to warrant manufacture

Yep, must be the case.

They've updated the configurator as when I ordered the aluminium pedal it stated "pedals and footrest". This is true for LHD but not RHD. I even had my OPC confirm it with Porsche to see if they were just out of stock when my car was built. Apparently not.

I sat in the buckets in the 991.2 GT3 in Geneva and was smitten but alas I don't know if they would be practical or comfortable for a long days driving and sadly I have to park my car in a communal car park so it would be a pain to get in and out, if you have to open the door past the first opening point.

From what i've heard/read they are surprisingly comfy over long journeys, i rarely do any journeys over 2hrs in length so i should be ok. with regard to access i have a fair bit of space on the driveway and at work i tend to park as far out the way as possible due to the length of my 3 door golf's doors, in multistories etc its the same story so i'll stick to the same habits. although there's always some tool who parks near no matter how far away the car is!

I actually placed the order and my deposit in mid july (not sure of the exact date) but chose to push delivery until the new year - the OPC offered an immediate build slot?! i think it was 6 weeks until i got the invitation email and then another 4-6 for a suitable day. i hope this helps

Great spec and great colour/wheel choice - externally near identical to mine...

One consideration 400 mile weekly B road commute - you may regret not putting the bigger 64l fuel tank in - on a similar style commute the larger tank is giving me 320-350 miles approx between fills.

To my mind auto-dimming mirror is a must. I'd ditch alu-look pedals that you'll never look at.

Can't help you with wireless charging - but one thing g I would definitely add is the 64 litre fuel tank at £84. This gives you an additional 10 litres to provide a more useful range.- up.until 718 Boxster / Cayman always had 64 litre tank! Ridiculous you have to pay for that but I guess the artificially small tank is there to keep the weight down for the nonsensical EU fuel and emissions testing.
