Reading the mammoth thread in General gassing on here about the S3 being a target for thefts (along with Golf Rs etc.) got me wondering about whether our own Boxsters /Caymans are similarly a high profile target.

Based on the reasons given in that thread for an S3 or Golf R's enduring popularity with scum, given that our Caysters are a relatively impractical car (2 seats, less "boot" space, low ground clearance etc.), then it's probably not a particularly attractive option for thieves to use to go robbing.

Secondly, I'm guessing that the market for stripping a Boxster or Cayman is much smaller than an Audi or Golf hatchback where I imagine there's plenty of custom in fitting lower spec model with the S3 or R's alloys, seats etc.

Which presumably leaves the possibility of a Boxster or Cayman being stolen to order for use in another country perhaps?

Just wondering out aloud if anyone on here has experienced a theft (or attempted theft) of their Boxster or Cayman?

I had a Cayman for 6 years and not so much as a sniff at an attempt to steal it

I searched the internet for this and they do occasionally get stolen for joy rides from lax owners.

But they'll never be targeted by people wanting them to rob post offices, you cant get 5 kitted out thieves in them for a start.

I may need to be corrected here but I've never heard of a Porsche being stolen by its OBD port either, so you'll need a key or a flat bed.

Had a 987 Cayman S for over six years with no problems with regard to that.

Never has an issue or heard of any other problems. Have owned 4 Boxsters over 10 years and frequently used as daily drivers, parked on road more often than not. Not so much as a sniff of being nicked or broken into thus far

For the reasons stated I think theft unlikely, but having a GTI Golf keyed, I wonder if vandals are a more likely issue.

No. Fast enough getaway car but you can't get a gang in it or much loot.

As for vandals, any car can be targeted if you're unlucky.

Thanks all, so pretty much as I expected.

Good to hear there doesn't seem to be a market for stripping of parts or shipping off to random countries across the world either.

Vandalism is a concern, I guess they do stand out a bit more than your usual hatchback.

Only issue I've had so far is my tyre caps have gone walkies. They're silver tyre caps too which makes them quite difficult to get hold of and I'm not certainly not paying £6 for basic plastic silver caps off eBay that I've seen!

You can get the tyre caps from your OPC. I had one go missing so I bought a bag of 10(?). Not lost one since! I think they're 35p each from memory.

Ahhh! Thanks.

For some reason never thought to go to the OPC as just presumed they'd be outrageously priced!

Nope, probably the cheapest Porsche part you'll ever buy!

I would definitely say vandalism is a much bigger worry, nothing says "key me" like a brightly coloured Porsche.

As above though it would be interested to know if cars without keyless entry can still be stolen without keys, like BMW, Audi etc.
