still thinking how the hell can they call a NA6 a 718!!!
They won’t. For the 981 no where on the car is it labeled Cayman or Boxster... Simply GT4 and Spyder. It was intentional... they are starting to separate them from the GTS, S and Base. I think the 982 will be no different... The 982 will be labeled the GT4 Coupe and GT4 Spyder.

Good point...

Labeled: GT4 (like all other GT’s)
Called: 718 Cayman GT4

Wasn't the whole point about bringing back the '718' moniker the fact that original 718s were four cylinders ? Unveiling a non-four cylinder car and calling it a 718 would surely be completely at odds with the whole concept ?

Yep,

It'll most likely just be called the Cayman GT4, as it is now.

There's talk of them dropping the Caysters anyway isn't there? So the link from GT4/Spyder to Base/S/GTS may not matter? If the Caysters stay, they'll lose the Cayster name IMHO so follow the 911 format.

I think the GT4/Spyder won't get 718 badges, just Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder.

I do not care at all how Porsche will call it. All I care about is a F6 NASP, being one of the last opportunities to get a NASP sports engine IMHO.

The next, if there`s a next, generation, will be turbo, or turbo-electrical, or further to the future totally electrical.

Driving cars as we know it today will change drastically the comming decade(s).

So for me it is now or never.

but they will have the filters in, so that's enough to already put you off is it not ?
with talks of 40BHP drain and loss of noise, it already could be game over. and you are better off tuning a 3.8 to 435BHP.

I'm not confident that the new GPF engine will be to my liking..I'm already looking at modding my Spyder to reinstate the lost HP...Been in touch with DMS as i've used them before and i rate highly..

Why would it put me off?

Sound important, yes it is, but F6 NASP is even more important to me. If Porsche says the engine will deliver 420HP that would be conservative as always, it makes 20HP more for sure like the 981GT with a claimed 385HP does 400HP or even better. So whatever the HP drain will be, it does not matter that much IMHO, the car won`t be slower than the previous 981 GT4 and not slower than the 718 GTS, noblesse oblige that is.

I want definitely a F6 with PDK, so the 3.8 version is not on my radar. My dealer confirmed to me that PDK will be an option (FWIW) so we`ll see when Porsche will release the specs in the coming months.

I`m on a waiting list, so if the 718 GT4 will be a disappointment, there`s enough time to withdraw for me. Better withdraw than never be able to get one ;-)

I don't rate them at all for Porsche they also have a laughable dyno which reads very high ;-)
Would not touch them myself. I remember some one boasting about a tuned R done at DMS, we told him to goto surry RR and tell us what he really had, 5bhp gain lol
their online claims are laughable sorry to say !!!

DMS are not Porsche tuners.

one really should hunt out a Cobb pro tuner for the 981 or just goto Jens.

Spyder with 435 bhp would be fun, would need a tyre upgrade though, 245/275 on 19" would be my route for the car which would shorten the gearing slighty also.

^ Wel, for the 981 GT4 I was never on a list what so ever but I was asked 4 times by different dealers if I was interested in such a car witch would be delivered to them. (Netherlands)

We`ll see what happens.

They're surely not dropping the Cayster platform ? It's the volume platform which shares a lot of parts with 911...and volume means margin ?! Not to mention it's the more affordable product and is bought by younger customers generally who go on to buy other Porsche cars.

Can't see it personally but what do I know! There would also be a big hole in OPC new car sales budgets which i doubt they'll want to increase with 911 production.

Isn’t the new platform due to be shared rather than doing away with the cayman/boxster? Much like the MQB platform this will be the basis for sports cars in the VAG group including 992, r8, next lambo etc.

Also if it was cancelled I’m sure the hole will be filled by the new mission e/taycan. They won’t be able to make them fast enough come 2020 when BIK on them will be 2%.

If you see a gaggle of GT4s heading out of Rotterdam Europort at the weekend, give us a wave as that will be us on our way to Spa. smile

No unfortunately not. We usually only manage one trip over each year. This one will combine Spa and Zolder.
