Ok, the information I saw said it did... if it didn’t fine... main point then still stands...no vanilla 911.1 GT3 PU in official motorsport.
The RS and .2 GT3 engines are not that different.... the .1 gt3 was the main baseline for all the engines that came after.

GT3 Cup MY13 ran the 991.1 RS engine specifically. The RSR ran the Mezger.
The new Gen2 engine came in the MY16 cars onwards.

So no vanilla GT3 unit.

Hope we can move on from the tangent now.
Tangent? I was only telling you the facts, no point making yourself look silly posting that nonsense.

Some of the facts you posted were wrong or at least incomplete or unqualified, same for some of what I wrote… which when additional info was provided was accepted.
I say tangent because this discussion was really a side-bar from main topic of the thread.
You do know what tangent means, right?

Right… and i know that... my point was the 991.1 GT3 unit as initially released was not used in motorsport. If subsequent revisions thereof were, that is another matter… i know that the core platform is the basis of the current engines.

The entire discussion stems from the fact that people say the GT4 doesn’t have a motorsport engine when actually it is used entirely unchanged apart from extra oil and race cats.
Whereas the 991.1 unit didn’t get the green light right away and then took subsequent revisions and improvements to finally make it fit for purpose… of course it wasn’t designed to fail and has now been improved because of the failures and learnings.

Hmm… I personally think the noise from that puts things up in the air again.
Apart from one downshift at the start... for the rest of the clip it sounds like a mini GT2 RS to me.

Looks good though.

Hard to take anything from a clip on the net but I know what you mean... Could this be the effect of the filter (haven't really been following the talk of 'filters' - have we established which models will have them?)

I think it's the filter and noise reduction effect. It sounds lower and bassier - no revving 'scream'.

Sounds more like a regular 911 to me. Would be in line with the last car if they just give it a slightly lower powered version of the Carrera S motor. That's the only engine that makes sense to me, better emissions, economy, cheaper, and fits with the rest of the range being turbo powered as well.

Gotcha . My thinking was that the GT4 engine was just the regular Carrera engine whereas the GT3 engine was built by the motorsport department .
I didn’t know the current GT4 engine was used for racing ?
So is the GT4 engine actually a detuned Carrera engine, or a tuned GTS engine, or are they actually the same thing anyway ??

This is an extract from an early GT4 Tech Document from Porsche :

The 981 GT4 has a detuned 911 (3.8ltr) 991.1 Carrera S engine.

The 981 GTS has a detuned 911 (3.4ltr) 991.1 Carrera engine.

+1 Def sounds different to the 981 Spyder I owned.

Whats the latest views on when the 718 GT4 will be officially announced? I have in my mind Q4 2018.

Unfortunately 718 GTS hasn’t got a detuned 991.2 Carrera engine...... if it had I would have purchased one!

Porsche are having a hard time getting the new 4L engine to meet he new regs and give the power they want and as so haven't signed it off yet. As it should have been all done by now.
Been told they also have a higher reving turbo engine testing as well. Might be just in case the 4L won't work ??

The 3.4L S has restricted throttle blade opening above 4.5k revs, all shown in 2014 on a rennlist thread.

The 3.4L GTS does not have this restriction.

I believe the Carrera 3.4L additionally benefits from the different intake and exhaust system runs.
