The 718 GT4 might be arriving sooner than you think!

Cheers Dunc, but had the GT40 been released and was available to order before it raced? I know there was a long lead time for the road cars to be delivered but I'm guessing that the road car had been officially announced before it raced...
The Ford GT got an exemption to race in GTE as the road car wasn't ready (and wasn't for at least a year more).Could the race car be N/A and the road car turbocharged? The Merc AMG GT3 race car uses the old 6.2 n/a V8 because it was homologated already. It's only the Merc AMG GT4 race version (and Aston's Vantage GTE ) that use various AMG 4.0 TT V8.
So the 718 GT4 car could stick with a tried and tested n/a engine (which they know works in the race car, saves developing a turbo engine for GT4 category, probably lighter too, and when everyone is BoP'd it doesn't matter as everyone gets wound down in power).
Like everyone on here I want the 718 GT4 and Spyder to have the rumoured 4.0 nat asp engine (be it an enlarged version of the first GT4's 3.8, or a version of the GT3's 4.0) but sadly the formula so far (ok, only once before) has been to use a Carrera S engine. And introducing turbo to GT cars is easier on the GT4 than GT3 (just as BMW M did with SUVs).
We need an updated quote from Walliser or Preuninger on the engine; seems he's been talking next-gen GT3 at the LA show…

Forgive me, I agree with all of the above, but I did't mean from a technical point of view, rather a subjective customer (and fans/enthusiast) POV. You don't do turbocharge the icon (GT3) first, but something else (GT4), show it can be good, then change the icon. That's how we got X5M and X6M, 1-series M, then M5, then M3 as turbos. Hoping this is all theory though, and there's nay a turbo in sight

World premiere of a successful racer
The successor to the winning Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport will celebrate its world premiere on January 3, 2019, at the “Roar before Daytona” tests. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first ever production race car with body parts that are sustainably manufactured: the front hood, doors and rear wing are all made of natural-fibre composite material. Three weeks after its launch, the new clubsport racer will make its race debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The GT4 rounds off the clubsport family of Porsche Motorsport, which includes the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport and 935 models.

If they can take enough weight out of the car it won't matter.
And weight savings are saving everywhere ... acceleration / braking / cornering / consumables (tyres / discs / pads / suspension ) ...
And the X51 / particulate filter may leave BHP at 400 ? But if the weight falls by 5% ... that's the equivalent of 420 and exactly where a racing P should be going ...
I'm guessing also that the breathing will be ... different. Personally, I would like a quiet setting for track days.
My Yaris GRMN was almost 1000 times quieter at Oulton Park than my GT4. I was gutted to be removed from the track-day at Zolder due to the noise from my standard GT4 ... how can you try when you are trying to be quiet ? It's like trying to ski a black without the gradient ...

Why wait for the new Clubsport? 718 GTS PDK race car from the unlikely named Peter Bonk Performance at Silverstone today. Running slicks mid afternoon when track dried out. Alcon callipers front with GT4 rotors, stock rear callipers and discs (VLN regs apparently). Full cage, Nitron dampers, and stock bodywork save for ducktail.

We have the race car in Jan.
Road car will more than likely debut @ Geneva as a MY2020 car, marketed as based on the race car, developed sided by side etc.
No rocket science required here.
I don’t know about the Cayman, but my OPC showed me the build slots for the Boxster Spyder in June and July next year. Surely too early for a MY20?Road car will more than likely debut @ Geneva as a MY2020 car, marketed as based on the race car, developed sided by side etc.
