.....Sat Nav - i want the display to point North - not spin round
On the 981 navigation in the menus there is an option to set the map point north or direction of travel - surely that option must be there with the much improved system in the 718? From memory with the map displayed it’s “option” then the settings are there for map orientation

Thanks - found this - not tried it yet

Had my 718 Cayman since March, only done 2k, trips out for lunch & country lanes @ weekends.

Agate Grey..........bit boring but didn't want it to stand out as thought might gain attention from some jealous people out there. Next time might go for Carmine Red
PDK...........slight turbo lag when foot is put down to the floor, otherwise brilliant
Black/Crayon two-tone leather interior
Model designation "718"...........wish I had it in black
Park Assist front/rear with reversing camera.............excellent choice & miss it on my other car
Rear wiper.........still not sure, has come in handy........looks v wet hands, cloth in car ??
Folding exterior mirrors incl. courtesy lighting
Rear side intake grilles painted (Agate Grey)......much preferred over plain black plastic
Porsche Active Suspension PASM..............excellent ride with the 20" wheels
Power steering plus
64 Lt Fuel tank
20" Carrera S wheels
Wheels painted in Satin Platinum + Porsche logo
Cruise control................use when in low speed restricted zones as not to get tickets
Speed limit display......handy in restricted zones
Auto dimming mirrors + rain sensor
GT sports steering wheel
Heated multifunction steering wheel
Adaptive Sports seats Plus 18way electric.........aids entry & exit as getting a tad old now !
Two zone auto climate control
Smoking package.........easy to plug tyre air pump in rather than hunting for the socket in the foot well
Passenger foot well storage net
Navigation Module PCM...............not as easy to use as my stand alone Garmin, can't seem to enter house numbers, again don't like the way map changes direction
Digital radio...............found sound to be very good, couldn't see the point of paying more
Connect Plus.............for when I sell the car

Car sounds fine, both inside & out, not excessively loud, it's a pleasure to drive & you certainly know when the Turbo's kick in..................

Like the "HOLD" function, but not too bothered with the engine turning it's self off & on when it wants when stationary (mostly have it off).

My FIRST PORSCHE.............very, very impressed just wish I'd bought one twenty years ago instead of hot hatches
easy to drive @ 30mph as well as 70+.......& zero body roll, my other half doesn't get so travel sick as in other vehicles.

Have noticed a few BMW drivers want to "race" & tailgate, no point I just let them go ...............I've got a PORSCHE !

Cleaned after every trip, seems to get a lot of brake dust on wheels, but is a pleasure to clean. Car is kept outside so keep it in a cover just to give it a bit of protection against birds muck etc.

Now toying with getting a secondhand Boxster to use abroad & in the summer.

It is possible on the latest PCM.

How are you all getting on with your cars? Good and bad points? Spec you wish you had / hadn't bothered with. Are you planning to keep long term?
Good! Got mine on May 12th, and have done just over 9500 miles.

Cayman 718 base model, Carrara white metallic.
Standard seats, 18" wheels, climate control, manual, PTV, PASM, folding mirrors, rear wiper, carbon dash inserts, car connect, sports steering wheel, DAB and connect+ (these 2 standard now I think), front and rear parking sensors, folding mirrors

Has not been babied, only genuine mistreatment was by Heathrow valet parking, but was able to wash all the sand and cement off the front and it survived intact. Quite a few small stone chips, and some stains on the sides in front of the rear wheels that will need polishing out come spring. Interior wearing extremely well - did get genuine rubber mats for rural winter living.

Good points: handling, engine (esp. mid-range torque), gearbox, comfort on long journeys, fuel consumption, ease of cleaning 18" alloys, ride on bumpy lanes, capacious front boot, general everyday usability

Bad points: not the best demister, P Zeroes unpredictable in the cold and damp/wet (winter wheels/tyres ordered), mechanical LSD is a bit savage occasionally, have to turn treble and bass right down to make the mids audible on the sound system, but it is actually OK once this is done, traffic info is generally about 30-45 mins slower than Google Maps at knowing where the jams are.

I'll change for a new GT4 if I can get allocation and I can afford it when they announce, so I guess I'm going to be keeping it for a while! Would think I'll change after about 3 or 4 years, but to be honest it does everything I could ask of a daily drive, so I may well have it for longer. In some small ways wish I'd gone for Sports Chrono for the rev matching, but I am totally happy with the rest of the spec. It feels very much like my car now - I might well stick with Porsches until I hit 70-75 years old and I'm ready for a Merc, but that's at least 20 years away. wink

718 C S, coming up to 9 months of ownership.

Enjoy most aspects of what is my first Porsche ownership experience.
Love the way the car drives, wonderfully connected to the road. PSM helps with that - feels v planted.
Manual gearbox is outstanding. Sharp, robust and a great feel.
I love the way it looks.
2.5l F4T is generally a fun plaything. Responsive and incredibly quick. Lag to induction is also fun. With PSE and Sport on it is obnoxious and quite loud, which I like. Though on the motorways it does drone somewhat, even on Comfort and with PSE off, and does wear on the ears after a while.

I am however trading it in currently for a new C63 AMG Coupé. Being the only car in the household (my other half doesn't drive), the 718 having only 2 seats is at times restrictive. We have friends and family over occasionally, and it's a pain in the bum not being able to go out with 4 in the car.

So it's time to change to something different entirely, but with the practicality of four seats, a proper boot and fold down rears. Plus, a thumping V8 monster itch that I've been wanting to scratch for a long time.

718 C S will be missed.

Are you sure Loudness isn't on in the Audio options? Ruins the sound in the 981.

Ooh, I'll have a look next time in the car. Hadn't even noticed "loudness" as an option - thought that had disappeared with 80's ghetto blasters!

Base 718 PDK. Just completed 12 months’ ownership (12,000 miles.)

Good points: power, speed and great handling.

Negatives, not that many. Having come from a long line of quiet, but dull execs the road noise from the wide Pirellis took a bit of getting used to. Driving through Europe is less of a problem as the roads are mostly much smoother and quieter.

Ride quality on 18"s without PASM is sporty to say the least, again this took a bit of getting used to, but the excellent handling more than compensates. On smooth European roads no issue, on potholed UK roads can make very long journeys a little wearing.

Luggage space is more than ample, can fit golf clubs, bag, trolley and shoes in no problem, and for short trips, is fine, obviously just don't buy a suite of garden furniture from B&Q and expect to fit it in..

Power and torque via the turbo is outstanding, I do wish the car came on Michelins rather than Pirellis as the P-Zeros can get slidey in the wet. Coming from Audis I do find more people let you out of junctions but you do get the odd chav driven golf R wanting to race, of course you can’t get into that on public roads & Porsche is clearly better than a dull hatch smile.

This car will definitely put a smile on your face, I did love the NA 6, but that flat four is seriously quick under turbo and really does pull away from 99% of other traffic with ease.

Clearly a lot of debate about the noise. Now I originally test drove a 981 and was 50:50 on a Black edition but went with the 718 in the end. I did love the noise from the flat six, it is certainly richer, but the 718 sound has a rougher edge and I personally favoured the torquey power delivery.

I didn’t go overboard on the options - but I wish I had specced the light design package, "trim strips in high gloss finish" (didn’t seem to be available when I ordered), and rear wiper. Otherwise all in all a bargain for 0-60 in 4.7s sub 50k.

PDK, is without doubt the best auto I've ever driven and IMO for today's roads an essential option. For ideal conditions and no traffic I would take a manual every time though.

Turbo probably not that much more efficient, but road tax pre April 1 '17 @ ~ £185 per year and 30-40 mpg if light footed depending on roads/traffic.

Oi Jimbo, there's nowt wrong with a Golf R!! I have a 981 BGTS too though so I'm not prejudiced lol.

I'm very interested in how the 718s are working out as I've never been obsessed with having loud engine noise when I'm driving. I'd have torque every day of the week over noise, I seem to be unusual in that respect on some forums. The one thing that frustrates me with the 981 (apart from the slow steering) is the lack of power until you rev the tits off it. It may of course be due to the Golf having been mapped up to 400 lbft of torque. But I'd imagine the 718 engine will be more in tune with my requirements power wise. I really must go and have a test drive.

Having said all that, I do like going under mway bridges with the hood down. It is a nice noise after all.

How would you compare the two cars? Lots of debate on the forums as to why not just get a golf R as similar pace etc?

Well they're very different cars is the vital point. My Golf is very much my daily, it's perfect for my needs. It's effortlessly fast in basic tune but the extra 100lbft of torque puts it into junior supercar territory. It may not have the grip levels of the Boxster but I feel far safer in it while hooning down a country road (within the speed limit obv). It's just so predictable in its handling. It'd be a much closer matter on a track because the Boxster would be more at home there on the limit.

It took me quite a while to get used to the Boxster and bond with it. Imdo like it though in a different way. It feels like far more of an event driving it with a much greater sense of speed due to being lower down. Also cruising round in the sun with the top down is reason enough to have one on its own. I like both cars immensely but would never see them as an either/or choice.

I run a 310bhp Golf R 7.5 Estate as a daily and a GT4 for fun.

No matter how much power a Golf has, it's still just a Golf. It's perfectly nice and has infotainment and driver assistance tech that frankly puts the GT4 to shame. Great in all weather and it can pass over speed humps without me going into a mild panic.

The GT4 feels like a special event every single time I drive it. Looks, noise, driving position, steering feel, handling and throttle response are a whole different league to the Golf.

well I've had my manual 718 Cayman just over a year, spent @ 8k on extras, don't 4k......bits I wish I had added.

the bigger fuel tank is a must and my biggest regret.

then I think the multi function steering wheel is another must.

but love my reversing camera !

problems......well the finish came off the brake calipers and Porsche did not want to know - I had them repainted for £250 and look better than new.

Was the £250 repaint by an OPC ?

Got a feeling that’s a standard problem , and maybe not due to cleaning with the wrong product.
