718 Spyder with a GT3 engine?
Discussion
I like the 'slightly down'
"Output for the 4.0-litre unit is rated at 493bhp at 8250rpm in the 911 GT3, but the Boxster Spyder’s power may be slightly down on this in order to leave breathing space for its more expensive sibling"
Still Boxsters are priced higher than Caymans these days so perhaps it all makes sense with GT3 engined Spyder and turbo GT4.

Well they had to do something with the engines they exchanged whilst proving the GT3RS engine ...
425 BHP should be no stress .... and more weight paring ??
I used to dice with a 981 Spyder --- I was speaking with the driver at Oulton last week and he went through three sets of front discs and four sets of rears to my zero (now fitted ST's to the GT4 just to be sure !) ... but the car was so fast considering that it wasn't a GT4.
The weight distribution should make it fantastic ... but I'd want one with a proper roll cage ?

To be fair he is a handy driver and used to wring the Spyder’s neck. Now in a Honda S2000 for fun. Still not convinced the new GT4/ Spyder will be a detuned 991GT3 engine but I would be happy to be proved wrong.425 BHP should be no stress .... and more weight paring ??

Autocar don’t have much of a track record on ‘scoops’ in my opinion..... their source is probably PistonHeads forum and others which have churning over that last few weeks with all the spy shots.... it been long time speculation that 718 Spyder/GT4 could possibly have defined GT3 engines..... but many other units have been discussed too... and Autocar offer no new information... only rehash of what we all already have known or heard from Porsche honchos.
We just have to wait..but the guessing game is fun... i think/hope that they will get a 3.8 powerkit..c415hp... or they may use a de-costed version of the GT3 engine as some have started to mention, and then use the powers of marketing to make it seem like the best thing ever...which I think would be a bit of a tragedy. Why use such an expensive unit and just nobble it? Doesn’t seem to make sense to me....its not the same model/principle as the AMG 4.0 V8 Bi-Turbo which they use in everything these days and just turn the wick up or down (simplistically)...and then how will they price the car? 981 were c£65k before options.... 718 with GT3 engine must surely be at least £78-£82k and that sounds cheap to get that engine... don’t see it personally. Obviously will clap in disbelief if they do.

"Click bait" I suspect and nothing more. Autocar were claiming at one time the GTS would retain the NASP engine......https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-gt3rs-and-911r...

people can drive most things fast with electronics, yes he was a fast driver, but as you can see the car was getting round the corners using PTV and just went through rear disks :-( the car was thrashed to death lol425 BHP should be no stress .... and more weight paring ??

The 991/1 GT3 is a very easy car to pilot there days as are ALL NEW cars, it's a shame about the 981 Spyder as it's not a bad car, but sadly not a car I have ever wanted. zero adjustment and normal Boxster electronics so PTV cuts in all the time.
in the pics the new one has GT4 wheels and it looks like the 380MM GT3 disks !! have they ramped up the Spyder this time.
I wish it had an electric roof as it would make a great 1 car for every thing car for me.
