As a further reference point.... I bought an “extremely high mileage” (24k) one owner GT4 from an OPC last month— I paid roughly 10% under list. It does, however, have every option box ticked aside from ceramics.... For me it’s absolutely perfect: I use it daily and plan to keep hold of it (for both track and road use), so I’d rather have a higher miler than a lower-specced car, despite its lower resale value.... I used the same philosophy when I purchased my 987 Spyder— driver/purist spec, but 40k miles on the clock..... Loved every moment of ownership, and still regret selling up last year— it was a thing of real beauty.... Mileage/Spec are all very personal things, and a lot depends on how you are going to use the car and how long you intend to keep hold of it imo.
Great deal in the context of where these cars are priced. clap

For me, higher than average mileage takes away the fear that piling the miles on will further devalue the car. In the grand scheme of things it makes little difference to the overall cost.

Also goes to reemphasise the importance of buying based on condition and not just mileage.

Hi guys.

Thanks for your comments so far. Seems to be quite a contentious subject.

I have found a car I really like and been offered a bit of a deal.

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Only crux is it doesn't have Nav.

Thoughts?
Looks great. It has sound package plus which means you can simply get the OEM nav added - it's a software upgrade an OPC can do - probably cost £1000. Get them to add it in as part of the deal. When I spec'd my 981 Spyder from new i didn't want the crappy nav but decided to spec Sound Package Plus - you get a better sound processor & you get the nav screen & nav buttons & thought it was worth doing for resale as well as it enables the next user to add the nav if they want to.

Exactly this ☝️.... Unfortunately, far too many of these amazing cars live out their days as “garage queens”, which is a travesty imo.... On the upside— if you are planning to actually use your car, then a great deal can be had for above average miles... So, although it will sell for less than similarly specced lower mileage cars, I’ve hopefully already offset that somewhat by getting a “cheapish” deal originally. And, as Heathrow says, I can enjoy my car without fear....!! And what a car..... 🏎💨💥

It's £4814 to have it added according to the Porsche Tequipment site, and you won't get the maps info in the multi function display like a factory install will. You need SPP or Burmeister already.

A phone with Waze or Maps, an air vent phone holder, and a single cable running neatly into the top right corner of the glovebox is the best option for a non-PCM car IMHO.

The next junction display on the multi function display is imo THE factor that makes PCM functionally much better than the built in unit. The are other advantages include cutting down on music volume so you can hear announcements.
All that said if you are happy to go down the phone route, then I'd consider a Brodit bracket near the passenger footwell socket too - it's a neater solution than the air vent one, albeit the phone display is even further off axis to see. That said I have both Waze and Google maps on my phone and, as it happens, Android Auto on my other car - but I wouldn't consider using anything other than the built in unit expect under very rare circumstances.

Isn't that the price for the full install without SPP? The car has SPP. When JZM bought my Spyder (SPP but no nav), before they bought it they contacted Porsche to find out the cost to add the map software (everything else is there, such as nav buttins etc). I'am sure they were quoted something like £1100.

I'm just quoting the Tequipment site, and that's the price it says and that you must have SPP already. A ridiculous amount for just software, but there you go.

If you ordered CDR plus it came with SPP which was the sensible thing to do if you didn't want PCM and would advise to look for if a car doesn't have PCM.It gave you all the hardware of PCM ,SPP and DAB. This was a £1k extra if I recall whereas PCM was £2k extra with £300 on top for DAB, so if maps are only £1k it works out cheaper!

Club sport (i.e. cage and harnesses)
Cheers dude. (Also - not an option I would want on any road car I owned!)

Yep, that's what I have in my car. I doubt the maps are £1k, however I might have to ask my OPC as if they are that's a proper result......

Sorry Fokker I disagree with that statement it may be true for chairs but not folding buckets!
Some actually prefer the more comfortable folding buckets and because they are rarer on the gt4 it actually reduces choice for those seeking cars with. If I was looking to buy a 991.2 gt3 further down the line I would only seek cars with said seats and have heard of new buyers of new gt3 switching to folding buckets after having 918style in gt4 for better comfort over long journeys!
Thats fine, each to their own I was just saying that cars with normal seats and folding buckets are advertised for less.
I see you car is for sale a the moment unless I am much mistaken? Any bites on it? 79k seems decent value.

The folding buckets do not adjust for height which seems to be the major gripe..The trouble with the 918 style buckets is the height adjustment only lifts the front or back of the seat, and i'm not sure which..This has the result in altering the backrest angle depending on whether its the front or rear that adjusts.
I had the 918's on my GT4 and i loved them but you need to get the height control just right.I'm 5' 10 1/2 with longer torso relative to legs and based on my recent GT3 PEC day my preferred position on the 918's is with the seat at its lowest position.I suspect its the back of the seat that adjusts for height which means with the seat in its lowest position results in less upright backrest angle which addresses the main criticism of being too upright.
As you say it depends on your height. I'm 6ft and the 918 buckets in the lowest position are superb for me as you are actually sitting very much in the car whereas with the folding buckets you don't get a choice and they are higher but then if you're shorter this might be ideal. It's a personal things for sure, that's why they have 3 seat options, no one is a good fit for all...

Have to agree with BnB, why order a car like this without sat nav. That has reduced its audience by 75%. Be a hard sell to move that on.

Bit harsh. Doubtless some are wannabee racing drivers who have it for the image, but if I was intending to do a lot of track days the first thing I'd want would be "proper" seatbelts. I think I'm right in saying you are stuck with inertia reels unless you have CS.

If it's priced correctly, it should sell fine. Don't understand the mentality of specifying a car for the next owner (unless purely for speculation). The fun of new car buying is personalising to one's own tastes.

As an aside, the way smartphone technology is moving I doubt integrated car nav will be so sought after in used cars in say 5 years from now.

There's a bum for every seat!

If you are intending to track a GT4, I'd make sure you had a cage and harnesses - basically a clubsport pack. Harness bars are ok but i'd go for a cage as there is a tendancy for cars to dig into the soft grass if they leave the circuit and this can lead to a roll. The GT4 is a formidable track car, it would be a shame not to enjoy that part of it's capabilities

I think you have that upside down - in 5 years time I expect nearly all cars will have built in Sat Nav - all BMWs and Porsches now have, and they, traditionally have been the "meanest" with tech kit. Smartphones have 3 fairly fundamental problems - screen size and location, battery life and the need to install/remove the thing when you enter/leave your car. That's not going to change.

U r joking rite? if not.
You guys are clueless. Clubsport includes racing buckets..

Sat nav. good point. My car is now worthless, you can have it for 25k
