I literally haven’t stopped obsessing over the weather forecasts. I am slap bang in the firing line of the next giant snowbd.

Obsessing too!!! Saw my CGTS at the OPC yesterday - they look even better in the flesh, and the sport design in all black makes it angry!!! evil

Where’s your OPC? Mines Sheffield which normally gets a fair bit of snow, and I have to drive it back across the pennines...

Newcastle, and thankfully it’s only about 5 miles from my house. They’re forecasting another 10-15 cm for us between now and tomorrow morning, but unless the roads are actually closed, I’ll be there to collect.

I’ve cancelled the insurance on my part ex as of midnight tomorrow, so fingers crossed it all happens. Good luck, stay safe!

Congrats on the car - I saw on social media yesterday, that the guys had cleared the space pretty well, but then it's all come down again overnight. Sure you will have no problem collecting, but be safe on the roads - the last thing you want is the jealous people looking on with delight as you slide your new 718 into a high curb. wink Coast road and Silverlink should be fairly clear - just the surrounding bits will be dicey.

I was genuinely anxious about what 'the world' would say when I bought my CGTS. I drove in to work the first day wondering if I would be gossiped about or whatever. The irony being that my car was not the most expensive in the carpark, but to the layman it had a Porsche badge and was a sportscar so...

I even worried that the directors at work would question my salary! I was totally irrational.

I think that says more about my insecurities than anything else tho, since with literally one (clearly jealous) exception, the response and feedback I got from people was incredibly positive.

The exception mentioned above wasn't even that bad. A guy I know said, "I thought with all the gushing people were doing, you must have bought a new one.". I simply replied with, "Mate, if I'd wanted a new one I'd have bought a new one...and saved myself a few quid in the process".

Thank you. I’ve just ventured out to the dentist, which promises to be a lot of fun, but it does help the anxiety to keep reminding myself I’m picking up my car tomorrow 😁

Just had the dealer on the phone earlier asking me if I still want to collect tomorrow, his first customer has postponed his 911 GTS he told me.

I'm in two minds, guess I will have to make a call tonight, drive back is about 80 miles, I'll have to take the M1/M62...

I'm collecting my 911.2 GTS on Saturday and unless there is a serve act of god, to the point where the motorway is closed - I will just be using said routes and driving in the slow lane to minimise the salt spray etc.. and get her home to the garage where I can wrap her up nice and warm!

Imagine the problems I have: I'm a Postman on my 5th new Porsche. Cayman GTS this time. I have been accused of pilfering from mail (by someone on here). Ps. The flat 4 sounds perfectly fine by me.

I prepared friend and family long before buying my first Porsche, with a succession of progressively 'better' cars (which I suspect is what a number of people on this forum have done). All who know me, now know that it's 'my thing'.

I've not often had any response from the great unwashed in the UK which is marked contrast to when I've been in France or Germany where people have been really enthusiastic. On one occasion a lady jumping out into the middle of the road, in front of me to take a photo!

I'm currently working in the Falkland Islands and here the Landrover is king. They are completely disinterested in the car I own back in the UK. It make a refreshing change smile.

I'm looking at the weather picture in the UK and thinking 'I wouldn't be driving my Spyder in this'. I'm not sure I'd make do a pick up now because I'd want my first drive to be a relax as possible but at the same time I know the feeling of waiting for collection day. The months went by, as they do but the few days before (complected by the car 'getting lost' between Grimsby and Leicester) crawled by at a snail pace.

Whatever you choose (choice) to do, enjoy your new motor.

Exactly the same here. I've even joked in the past that I don't drink, smoke or do drugs...but all of those would be cheaper than my car habit. biggrin

I've never had any negative comments about any of my cars, classic, sports or super, except an occasional, "you're lucky".

I wish I was, I could have saved myself 30 years of hard graft, long hours, stress and been around more when my kids were growing up by luckily winning the lottery or something.

Funny how you get "luckier" the harder you work and the more opportunities you take.

The colleagues gossip is the problem. There is potential for a huge amount of bhiness which can poison the workplace environment, Unlike so called "friends" (not true friends, but acquaintances that turn out to be holearses) you cannot "unfriend" them. Unless you change work, or you are the boss (of your own company) you can't easily marginalise or get rid of them.

Speaking from first hand experience here. When I was younger I was transferred from London to an overseas location with the same company. I took my 911 Turbo with me which ended up being parked in amongst Audis and BMWs in the company car park. Within 4 hours virtually the whole office got wind that "the foreigner" had a Porsche and ergo he must be earning much more than we all are. Over time I was able to build positive relationships with many in that office, but always some tts were resentful of me and it probably got in the way of the job. For sure there might have been other factors too, but the car hardly helped matters.

I was transferred again to another location. Before relocation I sold the Porsche, bought a BMW (which I hated). Again within hours of parking in the company car park most of the office was aware of my car. But this time - image wise - it was perfect: it fitted in with all the other BMWs and Audis, it was smart enough and expensive enough for a young professional, but not too smart for the narrow minded lot to feel chippy.

As soon as I returned home to the UK, I bought another Porsche.

Wow.

Thank god I work in the City, where no one can drive so everyone takes public transport or cycles. I've worked at this location for eight years and have become close to some colleagues, yet I have no clue what they drive, nor do they have a clue what I drive.

That kind of back-room chat and low-level bhing sounds really unpleasant.

Hi David

Thanks, it was fun to do for a while. I started it just after I sold the software company to keep me busy whilst I decided what I wanted to do next.

It's still up there as is the Facebook page and Instagram stuff but I lost interest to be honest.

I might get back into it at some stage but it'll never be more than an odd video of my cars or what I'm up to racing, track days, road trips or classics wise. I can't be bothered to go to manufacturers etc to get cars to review, feels too much like working!

Ironically, one of the last videos I did, the Boxster comparison video, has had over 120,000 views now. Doh!

Never say never though. Right now I'm looking forward to another season of racing, track days, concourse shows and 4 euro road trips (the latter being by far the highlight of my year). Whether people are interested in those activities and I do videos of them I'm unsure. A bit of the issue is you do something you love and doing videos of it actually gets in the way of just simply enjoying it. Much like videoing an entire holiday instead of enjoying the holiday.

Ultimately I learned that doing social media blogs/vlogs is a job and I don't want a job.

How are you enjoying the Spyder?

Cheers

Rich

I ordered mine in December and have not told anyone, not even my wife. It is grey, the same as my current car so I am hoping she won’t notice. The two fewer seats might be hard to miss though.!
